More on Chief Charlie
Now Chief is a full two weeks here but we haven't managed integration with the residents. They're closer now but still wary. If one resident and Chief go on lease walks, things look okay. If both residents go, it turns into chaos. The residents are spoiled beyond belief and get whiney and all the excitement is just counter productive. So today consisted of dynamic duo walking which allows for some interaction and a little touchy sniffy. Also managed individual yard time for fetch exercise. Both of the residents and Chief are toy possessive so anytime they are pseudo mingling we have to insure that no toys are visible.
Today was bath day. The yard is still in spring condition here but the weather today is warm. A three dog bath marathon is quite interesting. Chief was all shivers but cooperative and when it was over, it was as if it never happened. I think that was pretty good. His coat is starting to look a little better since his diet has changed and Tuesday is his vet appointment. From the look of his records, he had a barrage of vaccinations in December and was neutered the following day with boosters following in January. I have to get my little baggie ready for the fecal test and if heartworm comes back negative as I suspect it will, he'll get started on Heartguard.
Onward we go.

Chief Charlie Update
Chief Charlie is
quite smart and quickly learned which door we use to go to the fenced yard,
where the gate is to go for a walk, and other small things.
He came to us with a little stuffed bed which he loves. We were told that he pulls the stuffing out and
that he did for the first 4 days here. That
kept me busy stuffing it back in every night.
That seems to have passed for now so that may have been anxiety.
Today is “exposure day” and since the weather looks good, a
little walk for Chief with the other two residents will be an adventure to see
how things are going. We’ve been very
cautious on the integration with the two spoiled residents and this test will
be very important. Chief, on the other
hand, wants integration now. This is day
eight and Saturday so we weren’t on the weekday routine. Chief was gated in the dining room where I
work during the week while everyone was in the living area. He has a crate in there as well as his water
and food bowl. Everyone was gnawing on kong
bones with some “dog easy cheese” (well the dogs were, not us) when the obvious
sound of dog paws landing on the kitchen floor brought me to my feet. Into the living area pranced Chief! We now know that the 3 foot gate will not
keep him sequestered unless someone is there with him. Even with the two
residents in the room, there were no incidents.
They were shocked to see him though. Chief was reluctantly secured in
the living room crate just to insure continued peace in the kingdom and with
sun shining here in western Pennsylvania, we are looking forward to the afternoon
walk.

they went” – Will Rogers

New Foster Chief Charlie
After a rather intense weekend we thought it a nice thing to update on this new foster.
Chief
has the manners of a young gentleman. He is incredibly attentive,
loving, and playful. He is very good when leased and has enjoyed several
neighborhood walks. Since he's new here and our two residents are very
watchful, his playtime has been managed diligently to avoid any
interaction. When they are busy with business out in the fenced yard,
Chief has had the opportunity to teach me his version of fetch. I didn't
initiate the game, it was his choice. When the residents are snoozing
in the house, he's enjoyed his lawn time although he seems to be ready
to go in at the drop off a hat.
What we know:
Vet records indicate he was born 04/06/2011. He has been in several homes since December 2014.
My hope is that as we
can offer him a more comfortable temporary home where he can be prepared
for a long term commitment to a forever family.
I write this as I listen to 2 snoring dogs since the 7 yo RARELY snores. Life is good and sharing is better.
Best to all!

What a wonderful update! It's nice to hear details about fosters we don't get a chance to see in person. Makes me feel a part of his journey.
