Happy Anniversary, Muno!

We just got our Happy Anniversary eCard today..  I can't believe February 19th will be three years since we adopted Muno from foster mom Megan Sanchez.  We also met NEBTR foster momma Chris Schezzini that weekend and have remained close with both Megan and Chris.
 
We are happy to report that Muno is loving life as a tropical dog living out here at Bucholz Army Airbase in Kwajalein Atoll, Republic of the Marshall Islands.  He spends his days lounging on the couch, visiting the dog park, checking out the surf and greeting all of the island kids that come through our revolving front door.  Our two boys keep both he and his fur brother Walter pretty busy chasing toys and balls.  Here's to many more years with our little one eyed Muna Buna!

Happy Second Gotcha Day Muno

I received my virtual Anniversary card from Nebtr this month marking the 2 year anniversary of Muno's adoption.  I can tell you that he is doing fantastic and we love him to death.  My boys and I still talk about our 4 hour one way trip to Altoona, PA to meet Megan Sanchez and Chris Schezzini!  That was one of our most memorable trips meeting these two awesome women who do so much for our fur babies!  

I was so hesitant to get another dog after we lost our beloved Boxer Sydney.  I couldn't even imagine loving another dog as much as I did her but Muno has made that possible for our family.  He is a happy healthy boy who has nothing but love to give.  He will spend hours cuddling with us and playing with his fur brother Walter.  It is so great to see this boy and his "sister" Honey (who is with Chris) so happy.  I can't imagine how anyone could leave the two of them in a cage on t he fronts steps of the SPCA in the middle of January when it's freezing out..

Thank you Nebtr for bringing Muno to us!

Muno Update from the Marshall Islands

From Muno's Family;

Muno (our one eyed adopted NEBTR baby) and Walter have arrived in Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall islands.  They spent the summer in NJ with my family (we got here in early August) until the weather was cool enough to fly them here.  They are settling right into island life.  Walks in the early morning and late evening to keep them out of the sun.  I think they had a little bit of jet lag the first night as they came cruising into our room at 4 am wanting to play with their toys (we are 16 hours ahead of the east coast)!  Our sons brought home a whole caravan of kids to meet them and they are adoring the attention!  We are so happy to have them here!  Our family is complete and they are now island dogs!

Muno owns Pam Hess.  Muno is the one eyed mill dog that they adopted in February of this year from NEBTR.

Update on Chester

The biopsy results for the lump on his neck came back positive for mast cells.  He had blood work drawn last night and will undergo surgery on Tuesday to have the lump removed.  We are hoping for clean margins once the lump is removed.

Overall, he is doing wonderful.  He's an extremely handsome and confident 10 year old boy.  He's eating great and making himself right at home.  He loves to cuddle and sleep with my sons at night.  He wakes up, eats, does his business then sits by the door waiting to take a walk to the bus stop.  He loves walks and loves playing fetch in the ba ck yard.  He is very docile and has no problem not being the boss.  He's going to make a great addition to some lucky family.

I will let everyone know how he does after surgery.  Thank you all for his chip in and following his story on the website and NEBTR's FB page!

Update on Muno

Muno is loving life with the Hess family. 

He recently had a scratch on the cornea of his remaining eye, but after treatment by a doggie opthamologist,  it is now healing nicely.

Pam writes,

"I just got back from the opthamologist and Muno was much better than what she was expecting. She said our vet was right on target with the treatment. The scratch is deep about half way through the cornea. She can see that it's trying to heal itself so we're going to continue with the ofloxacin every three hours and the serum every two. We're going back first thing tomorrow so she can take another look. If it continues to heal we will avoid surgery... so keep your paws crossed!! She did see a cataract as well and we will address that after his scratch has healed."

We all wish the best for Muno for a very speedy recovery!

Update on Archie

Here's an update on Archie, the "gentle giant" NEBTR foster who incurred massive medical bills while being diagnosed for multiple seizures.

Archie is getting his phenobarbital levels checked at the University of Pennsylvania.  The vet ordered valium suppositories in case he has multiple seizures again.  Unfortunately, at 11:00 pm he had another grand mal seizure, followed by two more within the hour.  Fortunately they only lasted a few seconds and they did not continue.  He was himself the next morning so hopefully this is a sign the medication is starting to take better control.  She also said we may need to add potassium bromide depending upon his levels.

His mom Pam Hess has been taking great care of him.  She writes, "After his last seizure Tuesday night he kept trying to jump up on our bed.  I had to get him down about 4 times and put him in his bed.  Sometime after I dozed off he jumped up again and in the meantime my husband came upstairs to bed.  When I woke up it was Walter, Muno, Archie, myself and my husband.  I thought for sure my husband would have something to say about Archie being there.  His answer was... he drew an imaginary square in the bed between him and I and said "ok this is Archie's space!"  I replied "I thought you didn't want him on the bed?"  He said, "I just don't want him on my side, and if he has a seizure he's in the middle of us and can't fall off!"  He's totally in love!!!  My oldest is getting tutored for writing this summer and yesterday he wrote a nice little story about Archie!  We've also become the popular house on the block... not for the kids to come swimming but for the kids to come play with the doggies!! 

We will be off the NH again on Saturday to enjoy another relaxing week... so Archie will be once again enjoying the lake and boat."

Update on Muno

I just wanted to take a minute to give an update on little Muno. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since we adopted him and he is doing great. He is such a little sweetheart, we are completely in love. The first day he came home he was scared to even go outside. Now he's cruising around the backyard, climbing stairs, playing tug-o-war with our other Boston Walter, and sleeping in bed with us at night.

He went for a check over and meet and greet with his new vet this week, Dr. Scott Polo and his wonderful staff. He's met a few of our neighbors, including a retired Marine Colonel next door who has a soft spot for BT's and an endless supply of doggie treats! I want to say thank you to Megan Sanchez and her family for fostering him, I know it wasn't easy to give him up. I also want to thank Chris Schezzini for making us lunch and opening her home to my family in order to make the adoption possible. We are so lucky to have this little guy and I am so glad to be a part of this wonderful organization!

Update on Honey

Just wanted to give everyone a small update on Lil Honey ( the puppy mill mom ) that came in with Muno. She is doing wonderful, she is learning her potty training skills , socializing skills and is such a lil sweetheart to have around. Her New best friend is my Lil Bella and boy do they love to play. It's exciting to finally see her enjoying her life and the dogs around her. We are heading back down to Pittsburgh again today to have some more testing done on her to see if her retina is function-able. This test will take a few hours so I will find something to do while she is getting these test done( maybe some shopping)...lol anyways I have been giving her two different types of drops 2 x a day. One of them is to relieve the pressure that has been building in her eye and the other is to stop the leaking in the cataract which is painful for her.

She seems to be doing very well with them and she seems like she doesn't have as much pain.

I would like to thank Victoria and Sheryl for always being there for me and for allowing me the privilege of taking care of this lil Angel. She is such a sweetheart and has brought so much Joy into my life, I love her to death!!

I will keep everyone posted on her appointment but please say a prayer for this lil one and hope all goes well and we can help her be able to see again.

I'd like to add that Muno is one lucky lil guy. Pam Hess and her family are wonderful and I felt so comfortable in the whole process of getting Muno adopted. Cudos go to Meghan Sanchez for doing such a wonderful job with him!!!!

Muno's New Family

Muno is now with his forever family today! Everything went amazingly perfect during the meet and greet with Pam Hess and her family. I really think that Muno's docile personality will compliment well with their headstrong Walter. Chris Schizzini was monumental in the process today by opening her home for us to let the dogs and family members meet at her home on neutral territory and cooked us a full course amazing lunch! Pam so graciously came with gifts for Chris and I for being a part in the rehab and meeting of Muno. I know I speak for Chris when I say how deeply appreciative we were for the baskets and your willingness to adopt my "little old man" (now yours :0) Thank you to everybody who supported us and helped the process.

And special thanks to foster mom Megan Sanchez.

NOTE: Muno came to the Chambersburg, PA shelter with Honey. They were found in a crate outside the shelter when they opened up one morning. They suspected they might be an old breeding pair. The male, Muno, had one eye and was fostered by Megan Sanchez. Honey was in rough shape with suspected pyometra, glaucoma, and hip problems. The story ends happily for Honey as well, since she will spend the rest of her life with her loving foster Mom Chris. Click on their names to read more about this pair.

Pam's son, noting that Muno has only one eye, found him especially beautiful because "it's what's inside that counts."  That's what love is all about!

Megan Mills Sanchez is proud of her latest foster, Muno, an abandoned puppy mill victim left outdoors with L'il Honey in the cold at a shelter during the night, saved by the kindness of strangers. Now he's loved and Megan is readying him for a forever family. And he has a permanent wink so he'll always be smiling at you!
