Delilah Update
Got
these pics of former foster Delilah! She was rescued from an Ohio mill where
she was bred for years. I remember when I picked up her and a male Boston, I
named Samson, in my new car! She wasn't your
typical scared mill dog, she was ready for love! Knowing how she is
living now makes me so happy!!!!

Delilah in Her New Home
Delilah was adopted last week and is doing great! Her new parents
are so nice and she has an English Bulldog sister and Corgi mix brother.
I am really amazed by this girl. She is not at all the
typical puppy mill survivor. She was willing to trust and wanted to be
with us, instead of being scared. I can only imagine that she spent
years wanting to be loved so badly. She is such a sweetheart! I miss
her, but am so happy for her and her new family!

Delilah Has Her Surgery
Delilah was able to have her spay and hernia surgery Monday and did
great!! She spent the night at the vets, where the techs love her!
She got lots of love from them!! She is acting normal and as if she's
in no pain. Dogs amaze me! She has an adopter waiting for her to heal
so they can welcome her into their home!

Delilah Learned to Sit
Delilah learned sit: http://youtu.be/bmAz6Bdb89Q (with an appearance by Wilbur :) )
Delilah
was supposed to be spayed and have her hernia fixed last week, but her
blood work showed a drop in red blood cells and no weight gain :( She
was dewormed, given something to coat her stomach, and prescribed pepcid
as they think it's parasites or an ulcer. She goes back tomorrow for a
retest. Fingers crossed!!!

Wilbur and Delilah Go to the Pet Store
Wilbur of course was very excited and Miss Delilah did great! She
doesn't shy away from much! She got a purple harness to match her
collar and leash. She was a little tired cause we went on a hike before
that.
Wilbur had to stay behind for that. He wants so badly to keep up
and does a good job but I don't want him to overdue it.

Delilah Says Thanks
Thank you Vance Camisa for the sweatshirt! It looks very comfy
with a soft fleece lining. She wasn't sure what it was and thought it
was something to play with. She let me put it on and I think will enjoy
it when the cold weather is here! Thanks for thinking of her!
Thank you Ellen Scovotti and Bear for the moose toy! Delilah loves
it. She had to have it before I could get the tag off. She has been
playing with it non stop!

Update on Delilah
Delilah is a very brave and curious girl! Which is good and bad
because she's like a puppy! She is learning we are trying to
communicate with her. She knows her name and almost has 'sit' and 'no'.
Of course NO manners or idea of how to behave. But she is doing
remarkably well, not nearly as shy as I expected. She is a cuddler!
When she's ready to relax she now can jump up on the couch and curls
up. Then she's like a lump and won't move!
She is great with my dogs.
But is very interested in my cats. She seems to have a high prey drive
so I am keeping them separate. She is very intense with stuffed toys
and has to have it. I have 2 stuffed BTs that sit on Ozzy's crate, she
spotted them and went crazy climbing on crates to get them. She was
confused when she got it. I think she thought they were real puppies :(
She
went to the vet they said she's about 6 yrs old. The lump in her belly
is a hernia that will be fixed when she gets spayed next week. Most of her
teeth are broken :( When checking out, there was a poster of a dog's
face at her level on the wall. She thought it was a real dog! She was
pawing at it and wiggling. She is a real sweetheart.

Delilah Thanks Mary Zaborskis
Thank you very much to Mary Zaborskis and Rocky for the frog toy
and Kong!! Delilah likes the toy as you can see! She is still learning
about toys and just doesn't understand the squeak but gets very excited
about it. She really enjoys getting the kong with peanut butter when
it's time to go in her crate. She went in for the first time on her
own!

The Mill Dog Save
Ever wonder how something like this happens? Well, here is a day in the life of NEBTR, orchestrated by one of our intake directors, Jerrliyn, and with the help of many volunteers as well as new recruited volunteers!
The dogs came from an Ohio Puppy Mill that was being shut down - we were contacted that there were 4 Boston's in the seizure; a Mom and Dad and their two 9 month old pups. At this time, they were known only as Mill Mom, Mill Dad, Mill pup #1, Mill pup #2; this is because in a puppy mill they do not have names. And the plan happened from there with moving, transporting and getting the pups to where they needed to be - it was a very long couple of days for all four rescues.
Dad and Mom were taken to their foster homes and promptly named Samson and Delilah, given baths and of course, the most important part - FREEDOM. They are currently decompressing now, each with a foster home of their own with foster moms Leslie (Delilah) and Jill (Samson).
One of our volunteers (Maria) took in the pups, Mill pup #1 and Mill pup #2, for the night before their trip to Long Island - this is where they will decompress, relax and learn to be free dog and eventually be adopted. And most importantly - NAMED!
During the process of transporting the dogs, two Dads were recruited - one Dad took the trip to the CT ferry terminal to meet up with the second Dad who took the ferry to Long Island to bring the pups to the foster mom, Linda.
It takes a village and we are blessed to have one. Stay tuned as we bring you updates on the dogs progress and eventual adoption. And thank you to all our sponsors that help us do what we do best.
One of the "recruited" transport Dads - Three cheers for the Dad's!!!
