Happy Gotcha Day Mr. Bates

The whole family, with Dad Jener

Many of you remember Chops, our former Chip In boy who  came to rescue as an abused puppy with 5 old fractures in his legs that had not been treated.  Look at him now!  A true tribute to love and caring!  He is now Mr. Bates, named after the Downton Abbey tv character and has a brother Boston, Billy.

Forever Dad Tim Rush writes, “Today is the one year anniversary of our adopting Mr. Bates! We're so happy this special boy is in our life. It’s never a dull moment with this fun boy, even Billy has a soft spot for him (we think!). Thanks again to Northeast Boston Terrier Rescue and Carolyn Kamp Kanine for bringing us together. And remember, please adopt, and if you have your heart set on a particular breed, do a little research, there probably is a rescue organization just for them!”

Thanks to Carolyn for her special care for this little boy and for finding the perfect home for him!

Update on Chops/Mr. Bates

We cannot tell you how much he has meant to us! he is absolutely hilarious - such a clown, with us, and Billy - he make Billy play all the time, enticing him with toys, bones, even sitting on him when he won't get up.

And he is so loving and cuddly - even more so than Billy. Billy was always a bit like a cat  - he would sit on your lap only when he would want to, and not that often. Bates always wants to be on me or Jener, next to us, on our laps, you name it.

I am so grateful for the care you took with him - and always think how lucky we are, the chain of events that brought us to him!

Porkchop Goes to His Forever Home

 With Foster Mom Carolyn McCarthy

 Recuperating with Carolyn

Porkchop got his forever home last weekend. Porkchop is the abused puppy with a leg with 5 fractures. He went to an incredible couple in Brooklyn. They have renamed him Mr.Bates after a character on a tv show who is a war hero with a bad leg.

He was our fundraising dog for the month of March, and we wanted to give an update on him.  As you remember, he is a ten month old baby, but he has already had more than his fair share of suffering.  His is the kind of case that makes you question people.  How could you do this to a baby?  Like Rocky, last month's featured pup, Chops was injured and abused by the very people who promised to care for him.

Although still very much a puppy, Chops has already had five fractures of his leg.  Four are old and calcified, and it is unclear if anything can be done for them.   He will probably always have a deformed paw.  The newest, we hoped, could be fixed with orthopedic surgery.

He went to the safe foster care of Foster Mom Carolyn McCarthy, and underwent surgery. After the surgery, Carolyn reported, "Chops is doing super. It's amazing how TLC and vet care can fix an abused boy in no time. Chops surgery was a success. His femor was shaved so it would sit in his hip socket. Chops now gets physical therapy and swims 2xs per week."

He stayed in foster for 2 more weeks so we could keep the PT going.  Then he went off to Brooklyn to live with his new family, which includes a Boston Brother - Billy.

Congratulations to everyone involved, and for giving this story another happy ending!

New Foster Porkchop

Hello everyone! My name is Porkchop. Im 10 months old. I was surrendered by my former owners. My leg has 5 old fractures that were never fixed and now my leg is deformed. Please send me good thoughts, my vet appointment is today. More updates to come...

Foster mom Carolyn of Kamp Kanine, a true rescue angel, gives us an update on Porkchop, now called Chops
"Update on our boy Chops - Chops spent the night at Dr. Cattiny's on pain meds and fluids for his fractures. While he has 5 fractures only 2 are operable. Depending on what it looks like when Doc gets in there Chops will either get the joint pinned or have the top of his femor shaved and the chips from his hip joint removed. The good news is he is in the BEST place right now and the PAIN has been stopped. Keep the prayers and donations coming this will cost NEBTR thousands to fix! And again the abuser walks - and the rescues pick up the bills!"

This is such a sad case of puppy abuse, saved by the caring attention of rescue angels like Carolyn. We are aware that not everyone is willing or able to provide the intensive immediate care that Carolyn is providing, but your financial contributions can help ease the cost of care. NEBTR has no paid staff, no expense accounts, no private offices or fancy address: our financial obligations come solely from individual donations by our supporters. Please help.
