Maddie with foster mom Bethany Vaughan

Maddie has been adopted by Bridget Walsh.  Here’s what her foster mom writes:

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share that our sweet Maddie was adopted this weekend! It was bittersweet for us, but we know we found the perfect home for her. She has her own fenced yard to roam around (with a deck for sunbathing!), lots of car and truck rides with her dad, and endless long walks and dog parks visits with her mom. She's definitely making herself at home and staking her claim on the sofa.

Her new family is wonderful and I know she will be very happy and well cared for. They have kept me posted on how she's doing and sent several pictures. I also included my last picture before sending Maddie off. Love that girl!
She came a long way from when she arrived as a sad girl with the sniffles, then went through surgery for cancer, and is now completely happy and healthy. We have so enjoyed having her with us and will miss her! She was our first foster and we'll never forget her :)

Thanks to everyone for your support throughout the whole process (especially Beth) and to Ellen and Stacie who helped get her to us in the beginning.

Bethany

Awe!! So happy for Maddie!! It is so hard to let them go but knowing they are going to a great forever home makes it a little bit sweeter!! You did a great job with her and you should be proud!!    Thanks so much for everything you did!  You have been through so much with her. She has you by her side all the way! Thank you for sharing the love!

Update on Maddie–She’s Looking for Her Forever Home

photo

Maddie says, "Excuse me foster mama, but when will you be finished with yoga??"
Maddie came and sat by the back of my mat tonight while I was practicing-so cute! She didn't think yoga was very exciting, she just wanted me to hurry up so she could get some attention.
She's been enjoying life in NYC--lots of long walks and a few trips to the dog park.
Maddie is listed on Petfinder now, so hopefully that's one step closer to finding her forever home. This sweetie deserves it. Keep your fingers crossed for good news soon.

Yesterday we went to the vet to check on Maddie's surgery site. Last time we went, they were only able to remove a few staples because she was not healing quickly enough. The surgery was very deep and the incision was really long, so it has taken a while for her skin to fuse back together. I was convinced that she would need a second incision + sutures to help her heal (the vet was concerned that she wouldn't be able to heal fully with staples alone), so I was shocked and thrilled when the vet called with the news that the y were able to remove all the staples! She's 100% healed and cleared to run and jump all she wants. And she can finally have a bath :)

Look for Maddie on the available list soon. We love her and can't wait to find the perfect home for her!

Thank you so much Bethany for all you have been doing for Maddie!  Her fans will certainly love this update!

Madden Undergoes Surgery

Special thanks to Walter Williams for the portrait

First of all, Maddie is such a sweetheart! My husband and I are really enjoying having her with us--all 38lb of her! Even our resident BT (Jules) is glad she's here--and they've come to be quite a pair. A child saw them in the park the other day and asked about the "mama and baby." She's very calm and happy just about all the time. She gets really excited when it's time to go out and when she senses it's treat time, and prances around us when we come home. I can't imagine why her owners dropped her and her Boxer brother at the shelter :(

I've had a hard time figuring out what she likes to play with--she doesn't care for any of the stuffed/plastic toys or balls and has only chewed on a Nylabone briefly. But she has really enjoyed my resident BT's deer antler (which Jules has kindly shared) and romping around the house with Jules. She also loves jumping up on our bed and hanging out. I guess it's her guilty pleasure...she knows she can't sleep with us (not enough room) but she gives me a look when I'm in the room, and I let her lounge when I'm in there.

As was posted earlier, Maddie has a small mast cell tumor on one of her mammary glands. She has surgery today (6/6) to remove the mammary gland and some of the surrounding tissue, and she'll have a couple of weeks of recovery afterward. Please send good thoughts and prayers our way! This girl has a lot of love to give to a family that's looking for it--we just need to get her better first. I'll try to post again once we know something more.

Madden Needs Your Help

Please help Madden. This beautiful girl landed in a shelter, due to no fault of her own. She is a real sweetheart, full of love for everyone. Fortunately, she was discovered by NEBTR and foster parents Bethany and Matthew Vaughan. Now she has been diagnosed with cancer.

Madden deserves a second chance. Her life so far has been difficult and she needs your help to get her the care she needs to find forever happiness.

She will be undergoing surgery to remove her tumor and she will need substantial follow up care, including possible chemotherapy. We will keep you updated on her progress,

Please help get Madden the treatment she needs.  Donations for her care can be done online at

Say Hello to new foster Madden!    She was pulled from a shelter in Toms River NJ,  where she arrived due to no fault of her own.  She is a real sweetheart, full of love for everyone.  She will be fostered by Bethany Vaughan in New York City.  Thank you so much Bethany for opening your heart and home to this beautiful girl!  Madden gets along with other dogs and children and enjoys car rides and walks.  She loves to play.
And thanks to Stacie Kyle for pulling her from the shelter and bringing her to Ellen Thelin in NJ for transport.  Here are Stacie and Ellen with Maddie.  Stacie notes,  “What a pleasure it was to help that beautiful girl. One eyelash is white and the other one black, it made her even more stellar looking :)”
