Adoptable Pup Spotlight! REGGIE

Handsome, charming, enthusiastic, loving, and loyal -- that’s me in a nutshell! Some might add that I’m the original wild child, having had very little discipline in my short life, I’m only four years old and willing to learn.

Things I love: your love and attention, chewing on toys, going for long walks, chasing mom’s exercise ball around the house, getting belly rubs, and sleeping under the covers, close to you. And did I mention I love attention? Lots of it? Oh yes, love is the best, I expect everyone to adore me. I am so excited when greeting visitors that I may knock your friends over without meaning any harm.

Things I dont like: Cats!!! Or anyone taking my toys -- what’s mine is mine, don’t expect me to share! A charmer like me is used to being indulged, perhaps a bit too much.

What kind of home do I want? A person (or people) who makes me the center of his or her life, no competition from kids or critters, where I can really feel the love. Mom adds that my family must be willing to give me structure and training to make me the perfect dog -- things I may need to brush up on.

Meet Cherry

Hi everyone! My name is Cherry and I am new to NEBTR.  I’m staying in Allentown PA for a while,(you won’t believe how much snow they still have).  I have some pretty severe cervical spine issues, but my new foster mom says I haven’t lost my sunny disposition.  For now, I have to stay in my crate for another 3 weeks…that sounds like forever to a one year old pup like me.  You’ll be seeing more of me soon!

Axel Loves Car Adventures

Sweet 10 year old foster Axel sure does love car rides! Good thing for an extra long safety harness to look out the window and keep an eye on things! ;)

He's hoping that soon enough his forever family-to-be will take him on plenty of doggy-friendly trips!

Sweet Lilo Needs Your Help

Just arrived last week, Lilo is a 10 year old girl who is loving, fine with other dogs, just not very playful.  Lilo damaged her eye and was taken to her foster mom's vet who referred her to an Ophthalmologist upstate. The Ophthalmologist said the wound appeared to have happened weeks ago; it was causing her great pain and she had no sight in it.  The specialist recommended removal to avoid future problems. 

Lilo had her eye removed on Monday, 2/1/2016.  Now this sweet little girl can enjoy life pain free.

Ella May is beginning to look better just a few days after visiting the vet and starting her treatment for Cushing's disease. We look forward to her next update!

At 8, Peggy Sue is the perfect blend of youthful playfulness and settled senior. She was originally found as a stray by the York SPCA and luckily made her way to NEBTR and her new foster home in Washington, DC. The way to her heart is through back scratches, belly rubs, and snuggles under a warm blanket by your side or contently in her bed. Although she loves living a life of leisure, she doesn't miss a beat when a game of tug or fetch gets started. A fast learner, Peggy Sue listens well and can tell you exactly what she needs if you're willing to listen. She is looking for her forever home, and just needs a few items to start her journey! Update on Ella May

Ella had her first visit to the vet today.  She has been diagnosed with untreated Cushing’s disease. While that's not the best diagnoses, at least she was not burned as many of us thought. 

She has been placed on two different herbal supplements.  Liver Guard and Adrenosol. I was told it will take 3 to 4 weeks for the herbal supplements to build up in her system. At that time we hope to see the belly bloating, starting to reduce and also the excessive thirst and urination to decrease.  The vet was confident that her hair should grow back, but unfortunately it will be 3 months or more before we even see anything happening there. 

She is friendly but understandably guarded with her body at this time. There are not many places to pet, but I have been rubbing her ears and she seems to enjoy that. She follows me around everywhere and doesn't miss a thing. And to top it all off, I received my first kisses today!

Kirby is Beginning to Feel Better!

Kirby has made great improvements and is starting to feel back to his normal self! No vomiting, no diarrhea; he is now eating well and wants out of the vet!

Kirby Has Parvo and Needs Your Help

Little Kirby is very sick.
 

Kirby was called "Dip Stick" and left at a local shelter last week, very thin, testing positive for Parvo and Mange at the young age of 9 months. NEBTR volunteers picked this little guy up and rushed him to the hospital.  

The doctor feels that he is now beginning to feel the effects of the Parvo. That means he will need intravenous medicines and fluids because he isn't keeping them down with vomiting.

There is no way of predicting how Kirby is going to respond to treatment. The doctor explained that dogs have come in on death's door, and survived. Others that were glowing with health until the Parvo set in succumbed to the disease.

NEBTR wants to give this little man a new start. A new name, Kirby, and a healthy sound body.  Please help us get Kirby started on the road to a new and better life.

Dear Foster,

I’ve had you for awhile now, in my home, on my couch, on my lap, with family and friends, in my bed, and most importantly in my heart. I’ve gotten to know your personality, likes and dislikes and all of your sweet quirks. I’ve watched your confidence grow, and I am in awe at your complete joy of living for the moment. As I look ahead to when you will meet your adoptive family, I am over-come with emotion.

As your foster Mom, my goal is to pull you from a dire situation and to show you what it’s like to live in a home full of fun and love. I set out to learn everything about you so that I could use it to help find you the perfect “fur-ever” family. As your foster Mom, I give you love and tenderness, as well as the direction you need to become the best dog you can be. I didn’t intend on falling in love with you…but I did!

I have watched you discover the joy of couches, a peanut butter Kong, fetch, and running free. I have been amazed at the speed with which you discovered outside was the best for potty time and have been overjoyed to see how happy you are meeting new people, playing with dogs large and small, and discovering that rain puddles are obviously meant for running and jumping in. And most of all I’ve watched you dispel myths of your so-called “bad behaviour” with a little love and exercise. 

Seeing you happy, confident, secure and content now, makes me so very proud but also brings me to the hard part. When I send you to your new fur-ever home, how can I ever explain to you that you’re not being abandoned again? That I would love more than anything to keep you, to watch you grow old, and to make you this happy for all the days of your life. So if you’re so happy with me and me with you, how could I ever give you up?

I’m so happy that you have a family that can’t wait to meet you, but at the same time it hurts me to even think about sending you to a new home. I am learning that this is the agony of being a foster parent that everyone had warned me about. As your foster Mom I want what is truly best for you, whether it be a home with a fur-sibling because you love them so, or with someone that wants to run with you daily because that is what you need. It is my job to let you go to a new home that is the most perfect fit for you so that I can continue to pull other dogs from desperate situations and help them as I did you. 

Please don’t think that I gave up on you.
Please don’t think that I abandoned you.
Please continue to live in the moment.
Please remember me, but please don’t miss me! 

I worry like this because once you are adopted I no longer have control over what happens to you. I must have blind faith that your new family will love you as much as I do, and will give you even more than I ever could. Know that your foster Mom loves you and that you will forever have a home with me, that I hope you will never ever need. I know you will have a fantastic life, and even though I wish I could be a part of it daily, you need your new family, they need you, and I need to continue fostering.

I hope that you can understand this. I hope that you are happy to share the life you’ve had with me with other dogs in need. Most of all, I hope that you are as happy with your new family as you are with me. I will think of you often, I’m so glad you came into my life, and what I was able to give to you will never compare to what you have given back to me. You will always in part belong to me and my heart.

Forever Foster Wishlist! PATTI

Hello friends and fans, Patti here. I am a 13-year-old "golden girl" who is loving my new life with my foster mom Amanda. I came to her with absolutely nothing to call my own... after such a long life, you'd think I would have something - but I don't. That's okay, sometimes it's better to start fresh!

I will most likely live here for the rest of my days instead of being adopted, because I have bilateral cataracts and a stage two heart murmur. My foster mom says you would never believe I'm 13, and I love playing with toys!!!
