Maria's Raw Food Recipe

I use ground beef, fish, 3 veggies(carrots, spinach, carrots, cabbage), and 1 fruit(apple, strawberries, banana), mix with eggs including ground egg shells, vitamins, some herbal supplements.

Mix well, I make giant 1 cup size meatballs, put them on a tray freeze partially, then pop the balls in a zip-lock freezer bag.

Freeze them on a tray, once partially frozen I remove the tray put the raw balls in a zip lock freezer bags, and thaw daily as need.

Waffles Diet

This is Waffles' healthy diet of raw chicken (including organs and bone) and veges.  She loves it, licks her bowl clean!  She also loves the raw bones! This diet should give her optimum nutrition.

Wild Salmon Cake for Dogs

Found a recipe for dogs.  It had some items in it that are not good for dogs, so....I changed the recipe around, and came up with this version.
Chris Cassner

WILD SALMON CAKE
FOR DOGS

4 cups coconut flour
4 cups filtered water
1/3 cup olive oil
Olive oil for cookie sheets
2 Eggs
2 cans of wild salmon (6.5 oz each)
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon ginger

Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease two cookie sheets with olive oil. Combine all ingredients in a mixer or blender.

This recipe also whips up easily by hand!
Split the mixture between the two cookie sheets, and then pat down so the dough has a flat surface. Gently score your curry cakes with a pizza cutter or sharp knife. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

Look for golden edges. Let the cakes cool completely before removing from the cookie sheets – be extra careful, as these cakes crumble like crazy.  Not that the dogs will mind.

These cakes store well in containers, and freeze well.

This recipe can easily be split in half and coconut flour used in combination with other whole flours, but if your dog has allergies, it's best to stick with the coconut flour.  BJ's Wholesale Club sells it, as well as Amazon.

Easy Salmon Treats

Hey all, I saw some treat recipes floating around, and wanted to share a recipe I have made many many times ( I used to own a dog treat bakery and sell at farmers markets, and these were one of the best sellers!) I would take salmon-(walmart sometimes has the frozen filets for pretty cheap) or duck or any protein you want and put it in the food processor along with sweet potatoes. Grind it up pretty well, but doesn't need to be super smooth. Spoon the mixture into an old squeeze bottle like a ketchup or mayo bottle and then squeeze little strips of it or nuggets onto a baking sheet with parchment paper. Bake at a really low temp for a few hours ( I had used a dehydrator when I did these, so don't know exact time or temp-you can google using your oven as a dehydrator and it will give you more info). Essentially you really want to dry them out as best you can rather than "cook" them and they will keep longer this w ay. No grains or eggs or any additional ingredients needed, although you can add oatmeal or carrots or anything you want-just make sure it is ground up enough to fit through squeeze bottle! Salmon Dog Treats

How to Make Dr. Ward's Salmon Dog Treats

What You'll Need:

    1 7-ounce can of salmon
1/2 cup oat or quinoa flour
    1 tablespoon minced parsley

1. Preheat oven to 350 F. In a medium-size bowl, mix everything until well blended.

2. Roll the mixture into 1/2-inch balls and place on a nonstick cooking sheet.

3. Bake 12-15 minutes.

(Yield: 36 treats at 10 calories each)

Note: While the recipe calls for baking for as long as 15 minutes, Deborah recommends baking them for as long as 40 minutes instead. This "makes them extra crispy, and I think that extends their shelf life," she says.

Ward also has this footnote on the recipe: If you don't have oat flour, blend dry oats in a food processor. Substitute quinoa or amaranth if oats aren't available.

The Turkey Loaf was a Hit!

They love every last bite, Sunday and Maggie licked the pan clean!!

For those interested in the recipe, see below;

Turkey Loaf

·      6 pounds  of ground turkey or ground chicken or ground beef,or 2 family pac
  • No Salt, Pepper or onions
What I found to be the easiest way is-  in a pot large enough to mix all the ingredients in, this way you only have one pot to clean.

·      Assorted fresh vegetables, can use frozen – carrots, broccoli, kale, zucchini, cauliflower, spinach, etc.  – at least 3 different ones per batch, and should represent only 25% of the mixture
·      6 eggs (1 per pound of ground turkey)
·      ½ cup fresh parsley (more or less) - optional
·      uncooked oatmeal about 1 cup – optional if your dog has grain intolerance

Add frozen vegetables to the same pot to thaw.

If you use fresh veges - In the food processor:   -  Process the fresh veges,  and parsley together.   Add the rest of the ingredients to pot, mix well. Spray 2 baking pans with Pam or grease pan with butter or oil. The pans I use are oblong cake pans approx.  9x13x2    Six pounds of meat per pan. Two pans 12 pounds of meat.
If you have a butcher you might be able to get a better price on the meat since you are buying in bulk.

Bake at 350 about 40 minutes or until turkey loaf looks browned around the sides of the pan.
Cut each pan into meal-size portions and wrap individually in tin foil, and freeze.
To serve, heat in the microwave with water.
Of course you can reduce or increase recipe according to your needs.

Simple Homemade Dog Cookie Recipe

When you need a simple homemade dog cookie recipe that you can have ready in half an hour, these treats are perfect! They use only 3 ingredients, bake for 20 minutes and are full of beneficial nutrition.

Coconut flour is grain and gluten free and provides healthy oils for improving the skin and coat. Peanut  butter, ideally all natural, is a great source of protein and fantastic flavor. Lastly, the eggs provide additional protein and skin and coat healthy fats and oils. If you use all natural peanut butter, these treats are fairly low calorie!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup of coconut flour (can use regular flour instead)
  • 1 cup of all natural peanut butter
  • 4 eggs

DIRECTIONS
  1. Combine coconut flour, peanut butter and eggs in a mixing bowl.
  2. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Shape into 1-inch balls or roll out and cut shapes with a cookie cutter.
  4. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees F for 17-20 minutes

Grain-Free Apple, Cinnamon and Pumpkin Dog Cookies

Autumn is here; The weather is getting colder and the trees are changing colors. What better way to celebrate the season of fall then by baking an easy, inexpensive tray of homemade dog treats filled with the flavors of the season!

Warm your home with the aroma of apples, cinnamon and pumpkin while making your furry family members a healthy treat they can truly enjoy that also carries with it some health benefits. These aromatic cookies are made with wholesome coconut flour, which is grain and gluten free and can improve the condition of your dog's skin and coat. Cinnamon is a stomach soother that can also help regulate blood sugar, improve digestion and alleviate inflammation. I've paired the cinnamon with pure unsweetened applesauce and pure pumpkin puree, both of which are packed full of nutrition! Pumpkin can improve digestion, help firm stool up and soothe an upset tummy.

Picture
INGREDIENTS
  • 2 1/2 cups of coconut flour (substitutes: 3 cups of whole wheat flour or rice flour. If you need a grain free substitute you can use tapioca flour, potato flour, chickpea flour.)
  • 1 cup of applesauce
  • 1 1/2 cups of pure pumpkin puree (NOT pie filling)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 4 eggs

DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a large bowl add your coconut flour, pure pumpkin puree, unsweetened applesauce, cinnamon and eggs.
  3. Combine all 5 ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  4. Cut out your shape of preference with a cookie cutter, then place cookies on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Bake in the oven for 25 minutes.

This batch makes approximately 50 large cookies! Half the recipe for a smaller batch! I like making a big batch so that I can give cookies away to family and friends with dogs!

Coconut flour is a tricky flour to work with, it absorbs an immense amount of liquid and can be crumby at times. If your dough is too moist, add more coconut flour 1/4 cup at a time. If it is too dry, add more applesauce and pumpkin 1/4 cup at a time. Eggs are your binder, so if it is too crumby add another egg. This flour won't roll out the way wheat flour will, so just work with it! It will bake well and make a yummy soft dog cookie!

Since there are absolutely no preservatives used in this recipe they must be refrigerated. Cookies can be left out for 2 or 3 days at a time.
