Update on Mazy
Little Miss Mazy drinking from big girl bowl , wearing her harness without fussing and playing on our porch... She had her best walk on leash today , only needed to be carried once.
We love her very much !!!! And it is such a gift when she has days that she actually seems to know who we are , or we get a quick single lick! It doesn't happen very often , she spends most of her time in her own private universe , but every couple of months we get this precious gift of her noticing us and it's worth more to us then all the riches in the world !!!
I thought I would just update you on how she is and send some current pics . I hope all is well with you !!! Take care

Walter, Lola and Mazy

Mazy going for a ride in her stroller. Elaine says, “If you could see her on the days that she actually walks on the leash I'm so proud that I could cry.
I also got her a stroller and she loves to take a walk with the other dogs in her stroller on days that she can't do the leash My mother found a place that sells doggie strollers I was so surprised but it works very very well"

Elaine says, “I have worked hard with mazy to help her learn to walk on leash but somedays she just can't manage it , and she is so happy to lay in yard and nap and look around , it was breaking my heart that she couldn't !"
She continues:
“I just wanted to publicly thank NEBTR for coming to our , and Mazy's need! My husband and myself adopted Mazy back in September and she has really done well considering her special needs , Mazy is severely brain damaged and a lot of people have really shown sincere love and concern for her .
My husband and myself were living in a rented home with a fenced in yard and my landlord decided to sell the home and we had to find another house in quite a hurry with no time to prepare or save ... Thank goodness we found a lovely home in a beautiful neighborhood with a landlord who is very sweet and follows the local laws for renting , she is also very accepting of not only Mazy but Walter who we adopted in May and Lola my chihuahua we adopted a few years ago...
That is a very special woman who has allowed our three babies to live in her home !!! The only hitch in the whole move was that the yard is not fenced and the one true pleasure Mazy looks forward to everyday is to lay outside and watch the birds and squirrels and whatever catches her attention during the day when weather permits... With the cost of moving and the extra money I spent adopting Walter ( whom if I had to sell my soul, I would have because we love him so much ) we were unable to resolve Mazy's problem... S
he has worked very hard learning to walk on a leash and adjust to wearing a harness... In desperation I humbled myself to ask for help and NEBTR really came through !! Mazy has a lovely pen for the yard and my mom was nice enough to lend me the money to purchase a rubber floor so she will be comfortable laying inside and is easy to clean everyday and also I purchased a uv and heat blocking shade that I fashioned as a roof , she LOVES it !!! She is so happy and comfortable in there and she even enjoys the company of Walter and Lola in her little palace !!!
NEBTR has also helped me pay my mom back the funds she lent me to create Mazy's pen ! When they told me they were going to help me I literally cried ! I could not be more thankful ... It really means so so much to myself and especially Mazy ! And as a side note , one of the first days that Mazy made it all the way around the block , she caught the attention of a woman driving through the neighborhood , the woman pulled over and asked if she was a Boston Terrier and also asked if she could pet and hold her a minute as she had just lost her Boston of thirteen years only two weeks ago.
It was so hard to say no, that you can't touch Mazy in the same way you can other dogs , it doesn't feel the same to her ... But I offered her the chance to meet Walter and that she could love him up all she wanted ... Two days later she showed up at my door and not only took the opprotunity to love Walter up but also re visited Mazy , without touching her .., but she didn't show up empty handed , she brought a case if food , treats , heart worm medication and her late Abby's favorite leash !!! I was so stunned at how generous a perfect stranger could be , and Walter and I made sure we visited her with a bouquet of flowers to say thank you for her love for Boston Terriers and our special Mazy in particular !!! I promised her when she was ready that I would help her find a special fur baby Boston to give all her love to ! Again thank you to everyone , know it couldn't be more appreciated !!! Mazy , Walter and Lola say thank you and send kissy licks to all !”

Jack Flash is Adopted
Jack Flash was adopted yesterday to a great home, the Tremel family. They are in love and it is where he should be.
Jack Flash was our first foster and the little guy has been through a lot in the past few months. I got him from a shelter in north Jersey, got him healthy, on a routine, and he really came into his own with us. He was adopted a few weeks ago to a family in north jersey. Everything was going really well until the daughter became allergic. I took in Rocky (second foster) on a Sunday and the very next night I got the email from the owner saying he would have to return Jack. Rocky is not good with other dogs. So my husband and I had Jack Flash and Rocky for two nights together. We had to keep them separated, so we stayed with them in different rooms. We have been married for a year and a half and I don't think we have spent that much time apart! :) We were happy to spend a few days with Jack because he is such a special and adorable dog.
Jack Flash was adopted yesterday morning by Mazy's mom and is going to a wonderful home. She said she fell in love with him when she saw his photo and is completely in love with him. I don't know why but it seemed harder to say goodbye to him this time. I really missed him after he was adopted and I realized it more when I got him back. We really cherished the past few days with him. Yesterday morning my husband knelt down and Jack put his paws on his shoulders, leaned in, and jack rested his head on my husband's shoulder for about a full minute. It was a REAL hug!! And I could see in Jack's face that he was saying "Thank you!" with a sigh. It was one of the sweetest things I have ever seen. It was really touching. A definite "who rescued who?" moment. This was so out of the ordinary for Jack - it was like he was really saying "goodbye" to him.
I have already gotten text messages and updates from his new home and she bought him a new harness that looks great on him. It sounds as though this is where he belongs. Hoping that it is!
I am attaching a few photos of Jack. I just think he is the most adorable dog!

Mazy Has Her Own Family
Every once in awhile, NEBTR has a special needs dog that touches everyone's heart, such is Mazy, our little brain damaged foster, and a special foster family sent from heaven to love and care for her, Kim and Evette Heinle. Below is the story of that pup and her foster family.
> Dear Friends,
>
> This has been a whirlwind week for us and Mazy. After nearly two years of waiting, we are happy to announce that our Mazy has found her Forever Home! She is happy, healthy and doing great!
>
> We are so very proud of this little girl. She has been on a long journey but the ride was well worth it. We cannot praise the NEBTR Board enough for having the "heart" and the commitment to accept Mazy into the Club's care, despite her health problems and the risk that she might prove to be a long term foster. The Board's vision proved to be correct. I wish all of you could have experienced the remarkable transformation of Mazy since she came into our care. Progress has been slow, but steady over the past two years. And then amazingly, perhaps fueled by the prayers of countless members of the Club and the many thousands of people that saw her on Petfinder, Mazy became a real Boston! She is still "special", but in the past six months she has developed a new personality, more confidence, a greater awareness of her name and surroundings, and (best of all) a desire to socialize with her brothers and sisters.
>
> Despite all that Mazy has been through in her short life, she is still "Cute as a Button", and will probably hold the Petfinder "Most Viewed" title for quite awhile. Our Maze continues to grow in spirit, if not in size, as she has grown older. Where at first I could not hold her for fear that it would trigger one of her horrible demon attacks, in our final days together she would hop into my favorite recliner, knowing that soon I would be there to put her on my lap and rub her ears and neck.
>
> So to all of you that have stood by Mazy these past two years, who have watched her grow from a distance, have contributed in many ways to her care, have prayed for her, and kept her in your heart, Evette and I wish to say, "Thank You!" Its because of you, the wonderful folks of NEBTR, that Mazy is now with Elaine in Toms River, New Jersey, and is happy, healthy and loved.
>
> Special thanks goes to Sheryl, who always supported the decision to rescue Mazy from her cabin in the Catskills, and despite early evidence that Mazy may be a long term drain on Club resources, never wavered or second guessed the decision that this little girl deserved a chance at life. Our thanks also to Lisa and Lou for being terrific backup foster parents when we needed time away. And thanks also to the rest of Mazy's pack, who would sometimes get into tussles among themselves, but never....ever. ...took advantage of their special sister. They knew, beyond any doubt, that she was just like them, and also not like them at all, and would give Mazy her space and an occasional nuzzle of unabashed Boston affection.
>
> On Wednesday morning, when I said goodbye to Mazy for the first time, damn but she knew! She looked straight at me, her ears bent back, and a puzzled face that conveyed, "Hey Dad, oh no, this is not good"! I am certain that all of you know have seen this look on your own dogs. As I drove to work, my eyes became moist, I fought back tears heading south on Route 9. "Mazy was leaving." Sad? Of course. We both are, as Mazy was a hard child to raise, and in some ways the easiest one. That sort of defines our Maze, a constant contradiction. But our sadness has been replaced by joy; the joy of knowing that with your support, we have succeeded in saving a life and enriching others in her adoptive family. Miracles do happen. Mazy is our Miracle.
>
> Please join Evette and I wishing our precious Mazy well on her remarkable journey. She deserves it.

And the special miracles are the love of Kim and Evette and her forever mom, Elaine.
