Happy Gotcha Day Buddy

I just wanted to give you an update on Buddy (a Julie Klam foster), well he is enjoying his life!  Please see the attached photos. 

He just celebrated what we believe to be his 7th birthday & you can tell from his face that he is treated like a KING each & every day.

You couldn’t have matched us up any better.  We simply adore him & I think the feeling is mutual.

Update on Tori

Some of you remember l'il Tori only has nubs for teeth from chewing on the crate for years. Yesterday they were cleaned and they are now pearly-white! She had to have two of the bottom front pulled, so she's a little stoned on tramadol but doing fine. Thank you NEBTR!

She's been so happy recently. Very relaxed and more confident. She still doesn't yet have the stamina of other Bostons her age. Her favorite activities are lounging, sleeping in and having her stomach rubbed. Chasing toys & running bore her. Working on getting her more fit, been taking longer walks. Of course in this weather, things are a bit limited.

Adopt or Donate to a Senior

ADOPT OR DONATE TO OUR SENIOR TRUST FUND

One of the most heartbreaking things to see in rescue is the abandonment of an older dog by the family they have known all their lives. This poor pup has given its family nothing but love and devotion all its life, and, when he or she needs its family the most, is turned out. Some of these dogs are tied in front of shelters, some are put out on the streets to fend for themselves. 

These poor, lost homeless souls find their way to NEBTR, where they are cherished as forever fosters, or for some lucky ones, find new forever homes of their own to love them for the rest of their days.

NEBTR supporters Walter, Reinette, Mark and Cathy, always ready to help, have come up with a program to declare this "Summer is for Seniors." We would all love to see them finally get the forever homes the seniors deserve. Although greying and aging, they still are full of love and devotion and would like nothing more than to sleep by their favorite person for the rest of their lives.

To encourage these adoptions, NEBTR would like to set up a trust fund to care for these deserving seniors, and we ask for your help. If you can provide a home for one of the pups pictured above, go to our homepage and fill out an application. Adoption fees for our seniors are very affordable, but if you need assistance for the fee, let us know, and we can perhaps help you there as well. 

To help with senior medical care, if you adopt one of our seniors, you would also be eligible for assistance from our senior trust. 

If you would like to help, but cannot adopt, we ask you to send a donation to our senior trust so that those fortunate ones who do find a home will be covered in the case of an extraordinary medical bill. This would be a wonderful gift to any one of our seniors! If you would like your gift to be applied specially to one of them, just put that pup's name on your paypal donation form. It will be earmarked for him or her. New Foster Breezy

Breezy is getting settled into the city life here in the burgh already and is such a sweet, calm girl.

Breez is a 6-year-old diabetic cutie who was surrendered after her senior citizen parents could no longer handle an insulin regimin. The vet to whom they surrendered her sent her along her way with a donation of Prescription Diet for a month, two bottles of insulin (4 month supply), 4 months worth of needles, vet records dating back to puppy days, up-to-date vaccinations, blood sugar, and fecals, and her toys, blankets and bed from home. She is very happy, feels at home in her crate with her bed, and just can't wait to be let out from behind the gate in the kitchen.

 We have a diabetic cat, so we'll just be lining them all up for shots in our house twice a day ;) What's nice is that Breez does well on the least expensive brand of insulin, so the condition will cost her forever family very little.

She is a little lover and I can tell she and our BT Omar are dying to spend time together when the gates come down!

We took her on a walk today and boy is she awesome. This is going to be one lucky family to get such a calm, happy little girl.

Tubs and Alaina

Just wanted to share a picture of my grand dog Tubs and my grand daughter Alaina (They live in Florida) We were concerned that Tubs would not accept a new baby in the house as he is a very spoiled and loved boy. But as you can see Tubs and Alaina (now 5 months old) are pals. Alaina giggles and laughs and tries to pet my daughter's dogs. Tubs was the first Bt in our family. He is such a sweet boy it inspired us to get our BT Buster. We have been in love with BTs since we first met Tubs. Just wanted to share this cute picture.

Update on Oliver (Formerly Biscuit)

We adopted Oliver just about a year ago today, after he been cared for by his fabulous foster mom Beth McFadden, and he's made so much progress; we definitely wanted to share his success story!

Oliver (formerly Biscuit) is about two years old, and was surrendered to the Philadelphia SPCA because his former owners said that he 'couldn't be trained or housebroken.' He's deaf, and he has a few minor orthopaedic issues that affect his gait, and he definitely had some dental trauma early in his life -- his teeth are clean & healthy, but many are broken. House-training was never an issue ... he'll reliably ask to go out, and will go with the other dogs, too.

We had a rocky start with Oliver -- he didn't take to our resident Boston instantly, and is sometimes a little too much of a puppy for our 11-year old Schnauzer mix. We were patient and persistent, though, and after working with a great trainer, taking obedience classes with both terriers, and a LOT of love and tennis-ball throwing, we can't imagine our family without Oliver.

He now knows how to sit, lie down, wait and a few other things -- all with signs. So much for not being trainable!

He's such a busy little dog, and he's brought so much energy and entertainment to our home. He's definitely starting to grow out of being a puppy, but there are still times that we never know what he'll be up to next. He loves sleeping under the covers, and we often wake up and find that he's squashed himself between our pillows. He loves sitting on the screened porch with us, watching the other dogs play in the yard, but he's still not sure about spending much time outdoors. His best friends are our friends' 18 month-old son, and their 90-lb. German shepherd mix; it's fabulous to watch him play with Jonas (the baby) and Cooper (the shepherd).

We're about to move to a house with 3.5 acres, and are super excited to have more space for the boys to run and play!

We're including some pictures -- it's hard to catch him in some of his funniest moments, though!

Schroeder Crosses the Rainbow Bridge

 

Sadly, we note the passing of former foster Schroeder.   He was one of the first fosters of our wonderful foster mom Carolyn McCarthy.  He was adopted by Susan Kerr, who loved and cherished him  He was diagnosed a few months ago with congenital heart failure, and, just shy of his two year adoption anniversary, Schroeder crossed the rainbow bridge.

Susan writes,

"Two years ago today, I adopted the best dog ever. Two days ago, he passed away. He was full of life and very funny. He actually smiled, so much so that a woman came up to me one day and said 'your dog smiles'. He was so very special to me and to everyone that knew him. He never had any attention from the family that gave him away but for the last two years he had everything he ever wanted or needed. He had more love than his little heart could hold and he gave it all back tenfold. I will miss him forever."

Run free and whole, Schroeder.
