In Memory of Evelyn Laney Donation

NEBTR is very grateful for the generous donation it recently receive in memory of Evelyn Laney.  Evelyn was a loyal member of the Glen Falls Kennel Club. Evelyn always had champion Boston Terriers. Thanks so much for remembering her in this way. Your gift will certainly help Bostons in need, and we're sure Evelyn would have been pleased to be remembered in this way.

In Memory of Shelby

Shelby was a former puppy mill mama who was rescued with several other girls in March of 2008 by NEBTR, transported in a 7 hour trip by Mike and Amy, and then fostered by Amanda.  All of the dogs dogs were absolute sweethearts and totally happy to be out of that terrible mill. Here is a picture of Shelby taken during the transport:

Unfortunately, she was rushed to the Emergency hospital because she could not breathe, She was in Congestive Heart Failure and her lungs were filled up with fluid, plus she had cancer that the vet said was spreading through out her body, so the doctor recommended putting her to sleep. Her owner is devastated. She knew love and caring during these last two years of her life, and she certainly had the most wonderful forever home possible.  She will be missed; she was a very special little girl

Buddy

I picked up Buddy at the Rochester shelter.  He is underweight but otherwise seems in good condition.  He is a wonderful boy.  He is friendly with everyone, gets along with all of my dogs and cats.  He is housebroken and nicely behaved.

He is so active I can't believe he's 13.  He will play fetch with a ball forever and keeps up with my younger guys on walks with no problem.

I'm hoping there is someone out there who will look past Buddy's age and offer him a forever home.  He has a lot of life left in him and is a very loving dog.

Update on Parker

Note:  Parker found himself at animal control in Philly and was pulled on day two of his 48 hour hold before begin PTS.  Someone from another rescue had to actually pull him and hold him until Jodi could get there because his time was literally up. Now look at him happy, healthy and more importantly, alive!  YAY!!!!

"Anne, the forever mom, just emailed me about Parker, a dog we fostered last may through July (with some help from Jodi).
It's stories like this that remind us of what we do!

-- Vicki Rowe"

"Parker has decided that he really likes my husband, Ken.  He bonded with me right away but stayed cool toward Ken.  Ken has been home for a couple of weeks with a bad gall bladder,  it was removed today.  Parker and Ken have now become fast friends.  Parker now looks for him and is visibly excited to see him.  Parker has also made friends with my daughter's dog, Bear, a black lab (female).  He has become a real asset to our family.  We enjoy our walks and play time together.  I am sending you a picture of Parker and Ken sitting together.  Our best wishes for more successful adoptions.  Anne Swain"

Michigan terrier turns up in Wheeling IL

Michigan terrier turns up in Wheeling Illinois

Check out this video of a Boston Terrier from Michigan who was found in Illinois after 4 months:

Frankie is one lucky dog! The Boston terrier who traveled miles from Michigan to Illinois is now headed home. Tuesday Frankie went from lost to found. The Boston terrier has been missing since January from his Michigan farm. On Saturday, he was found in the suburbs and taken to the Wheeling Animal and Pet Resort, where vets found a microchip that identified him. "Definitely lucky. We have a contract with the wheeling police and they bring in lost or stray dogs," said Alyssa Roberts, Wheeling Animal Hospital."No collars, to tags, and he followed me to my front door," said Mark Feldstein, dog rescuer.Frankie's family from Battle Creek, Michigan, was located from the microchip. They drove down to get the dog. "I'm very excited, said Denise Shepard, Frankie's owner. "Five months he's been gone."
And with that the two were reunited. And a howling good reunion it was.

Gracy Update

Note:  This was written by Gracy's forever family to her foster mom, Molly, who did such a wonderful job with little Gracy.  Hannah and Marc drove 5 hours to meet her and then spent the entire day getting to know her and working on trying to get Gracy to accept their dog, Olive.

Molly writes, "They're a really kind, patient young couple who have given Gracy a wonderful home and are working really hard on training and behavior issues with her.  Gracy and Olive have become best friends and Marc and Hannah are very happy with Gracy.  I'm sure Gracy is loving her new life!"

Hi Molly,

Just wanted to give you another update on Gracy. She is such a great little girl, and I think she's really blossoming. Her and Olive are getting along fantastically. Practically best buds already. They play, and play fight. We all go on walks together. Gracy is even sleeping in the bed with us now, and she doesn't even growl or snap at Olive. She is however, not a morning dog. I get up fairly early for work and Olive is ready to go before my alarm even goes off, but Gracy just lifts her head and looks at me as if to say, "Are you kidding, no way am I getting up right now." She likes to keep sleeping with Marc, she even snuggles into his back.

Her digestion issues seem to be resolved. She's eating heartily and has very regular and consistent poops. We are currently in the process of transferring her for the food our vet prescribed to the food we make for Olive. She seems to enjoy and even dances a little when its time to eat. She's a total beggar. Now that she has mastered sitting on command we're working on coming when called. So far she complies about half of the time, but we're using positive reinforcement training, and lots of treats, which more often than not get her attention.

Gracy is a wonderful little dog, and I am so happy that we were able to bring her into our family. It already seems as if she's been here the whole time. She and Olive spend hours wrestling and barking at strange noises or things that aren't there, and playing tug of war. I even have a picture.

Hope everything is well with you and all your dogs,
Hannah, Marc, Olive and Gracy

Update on Oscar

Oscar is the sweetest most affectionate dog, and funny. He's like a cartoon character! Ella had a huge box of toys which have been untouched since she died. Bluey doesn't bother with them. Oscar has discovered the toy box. There are toys scattered all over the house and he keeps taking some and putting them in his crate. So much fun!

Oscar is home! He is learning to mind his manners with Bluey. He is just so cute and affectionate. he learns things quickly. What a lovebug! Thank you NEBt Rescue!

Thank you for all of your help and suggestions. Oscar is just a lovebug! Bluey isn't thrilled, but he's
getting used to him. Maybe eventually he'll play with him. Oscar tried to mount him 2x the
first day and Bluey put him in his place. He has been minding his manners since then. The
girls, my husband and I are just in love. He's a good boy, he listens very well. He needs work
with a leash..I am surprised a 30lb dog can pull me that hard! In every other way, he learns so
quickly if you tell him no. He is extremely affectionate and sweet, just a doll.

Thanks again,
Patty
PS Maybe I can work on Karl about a girl..in the future.:)

Chubba Bubba Found His Forever Home

Chubba Bubba went to his home last week. He has the PERFECT home!!!!
We were on vacation last week and his parents, Janice and Ray Boyer, offered to watch our 2 Bostons as well while we were gone. They are retired and home all day, they have a house covered in Boston things (i am jealous), a doggie door, and a fenced in yard. You couldnt ask for anything better! They were so excited about watching them. It was helpful for Chubba too to adjust since he is deaf.
Penny and Cleveland came home from their house and slept for 2 days straight! They had so much fun. It was a puppy vacation for them!
Chubba had his first vet visit and all went wonderfully. They are going to put him in puppy classes and agility training. He met Ray's father this weekend. Ray's father has had Bostons for 85 years and remembers all their names and personalitites. He loved Chubba!
They would also like to adopt a playmate for Chubba soon =)
I couldn't be happier for them!

Update on Bunnie

Bunnie came into foster care with her brother, Turbo.  When it was realized that Bunnie was an agility star prospect, it was decided by her foster parents that the best home for Bunnie would be with caregivers who would encourage this skill in her.  Turbo was then adopted by Alexandra, his foster mom.

Kristen, Bunnie's forever mom, writes, "She's doing great!! We couldn't have asked for a better dog for us! She's chilling right now.she's good at that. We bought her some agility equipment, and she's loving it."

Here is Bunnie in her rain gear.  Kristen says that she tries to shake it off, but she hates the rain even more. She is always with her tennis ball in her mouth." Bunnie is a real athlete, and "seriously jumps so high it's funny."

Her one quirk is that she "cannot STAND it when someone 'blows a raspberry'. She howl/barks and gets very stresed."

It is great to hear that Bunnie is living the good life with Kristen and Danny. There is a visit planned this spring for Turbo and Bunnie so they can get together again.

Update on Mitzy

Here is an update on Mitzy, the 5 year old puppy mill girl I fostered that was rescued in September from a mill in Allentown, PA by Lisa Vaughan. What I will most remember her for is that she just loved, loved, loved cuddling up and rolling around in her dog bed. I guess it was because she never had a soft place to sleep. She
was adopted 3 days after Christmas to a wonderful family in New Jersey who has been loving her and continues to rehab her as she still learns to live life in the outside world. Here is a picture of  Mitzy (on the right) and her older brother Ludwig, who is mill survivor who is blind. The second picture I'm uploading is the night before her adoption.  This picture sums up her entire personality in one shot. Her puppy factory days are
certainly over, yay Mitzy.

Here is her family's update...

“This is Ludwig and Mitzy laying in my lap on the recliner. It is not uncommon to have all three in
my lap. Mitzy is learning to play. In the beginning, if she had a toy and we tried to tease her by pulling on it, she would walk away like she wasn't supposed to have it. She has gotten to the point where she will take the toy, and run. I'm trying to teach her and Boyd (mom's shih tzu) to fetch, but Ludwig is the only one who participates. Mitzy is still man-nervous, and Tim cannot get her to go outside to potty. I usually walk out into the yard with her and the two others at bedtime. She has gotten to the point where she thinks the big yard is
pretty cool, and if we are out there and I yell "look at her go" she will run her little tail off running around the yard, in the doggy door, back out and around and back in.

So, we are doing well.

She's very nervous about going out front on a leash when we are going in the
car. I did take her to the river and once we got there and started walking
around, she was very good.”

Porkchop Has a Forever Home

My little old man, Porky, went to his forever home last night.
Porky came from the Harrisburg Humane Society where he was dropped off on 4 different occasions.

He went to live in Old Bridge NJ with the Preteroti family. You can see them in one of the attachments. They have a 3 yr old lab and their parents live with them so someone will almost always be home. They have a fenced in yard too.

They also are raring and ready to play hours of fetch with the Porkman!
I think Porky will be very happy with them. He has so many people to play fetch with.
