Roxy Puppy is Adopted

 

 

I just spoke to the adopting family, and they are thrilled to be approved to take Roxy. Maggie, my five year old is going to be so bored when she is gone!! I've gotten quite attached to her in the last two weeks. She is stuck like glue on me as soon as I sit down on the couch or bring her up on the bed with me.
The transfer is scheduled for Thursday right now during the day. My 13 yr old wants to get picked up from school and go with us-- he is such a part of every Boston we foster!
I do have to say, after two weeks of playful wrestling, yipping, purloined socks and shoes, and shredded mail, I am ready for some downtime :) Senior BT's are a world of difference to foster!

Katie is Adopted

Good news everyone.  Katie went to her forever home yesterday.  While the whole fostering thing is bittersweet, it is also so rewarding.  I know will have a wonderful life.

Big Boy Charlie is Adopted

Big Boy Charlie is in his forever home in New Jersey. This was meant to be! The family will soon be empty nester's. What an amazing family! Charlie will be the center of their world.

Charlie will be pampered for life! The family has suffered great hardship this year topped off by the loss of their 14 yr old boston. Today marked the beginning of the healing process for them. Charlie seemed at home at once the teen son playing tug-o-war on the floor, Charlie ran to the door when he had to tinkle. They already had food and water waiting for Charlie and before we left Charlie was trying to nab the left over food off the counters. I know Charlie needed them but I think they needed him more! This is why we do what we do...thanks to all of you for making this day possible.

Awesome first adoption experience with NEBTR the constant guidance and support were incredible! We look forward to the next foster in need.

Winter Weather Advice

Never let your dog off the leash on snow or ice, especially during a snowstorm, dogs can lose their scent and easily become lost. More dogs are lost during the winter than during any other season, so make sure yours always wears ID tags.

Gizmo is Adopted

Carolyn of Kamp Kanine has adopted another of her lucky fosters, Gizmo.  Gizmo is a 6 year old boy who Carolyn described as "just super."  Gizmo is happy anywhere, as long as he is with his people. He will
sleep all day or hike all day whatever you want to do!



Carolyn has found the perfect forever Dad for Gizmo!  She says, "For all the people that say they would never be able to give the rescue up, needs to meet all the super forever homes I do. I have soo many extended dog families! Foster-adopt don't shop!"

Otto Goes to the Rainbow Bridge

Around midnight on December 6, Otto went into a grand mal seizure while he was sleeping. It lasted about 40 minutes and he was unable to come out of it. I cannot believe I am saying this, but he passed away.

My family and I are dumbfounded, heart broken and absolutely beside ourselves. I am truly sick over this. We came to love him so much over the past two months and I know he loved us too.

My heart is very heavy right now...

Jenn, thank you for being there for Otto at his time of greatest need.    You gave him two months of unconditional love, more than he had his entire life. He left surrounded by love; what a blessing.

Dear Jen and family,

Your notes to us about Otto were always so beautiful and loving.  We know the incredible pain you are all feeling now at his loss and that there will always be a place in your hearts that belongs to him.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and sympathies.  I must admit that I am very bruised and deeply saddened by Otto's passing.  My partner is equally devastated.  She spends the most time daily with the dogs and Otto just ADORED her.  Whenever she sat, he was in her lap.  He followed her everywhere, even waited for her outside the Ladies Room.  We called him her boyfriend!!

Otto showed no signs of illness and never had a seizure with us.  His very last night was like every other night.  We all go up to the bedroom, both dogs got their little bedtime cookie and then one at a time they get into their bed, were covered with their blankies, got a kiss on the head & went "nite-nite".  (I know - I'm weird, but I am totally ok with it.)  Picture attached.

Otto had the best few months here. He did not deserve to have such a short life or leave us the the way that he did. He was a joy to have and everyone that met him fell in love with him immediately - including our own Members who assisted in his transport, the ladies at our Groomer's and even our Vets.  Two of them came out to personally handle his intake yesterday morning and were shocked that he had passed.

I will be forever grateful to Ms. Ellen Hansen for her kindness and virtual "hand holding" during Otto's seizure and passing.  I was quite hysterical and very emotional.  She was the voice of reason and calmness just when I needed it the most.

Attached is one of our favorite pictures of Otto.  He was a very handsome little boy that we will always carry in our hearts.  I know he is in heaven, running free with my beautiful Boxer girl, Shining, and all the other sweet fur-babies that have passed.

Holiday Pet Protection, Poisonous Plants

Poisonous Plants

We all like making our homes more festive for the holidays. We enjoy the green foliage and colorful flowers of plants. Unfortunately, many of the plants we have in our homes during the holidays can be poisonous to pets. If ingested, holly (leaves and berries) causes stomach upset and can be potentially fatal to both dogs and cats. Mistletoe upsets stomachs and can cause heart collapse, while hibiscus may cause diarrhea. Poinsettias have an irritating sap that can cause blistering in the mouth and stomach upset. So when you brighten up your home, place these plants well out of your dog's reach, or use imitation holiday plants.

During an early morning response to a house fire in Santa Rose de Temuco , Chile , firefighters witnessed the unbelievable. A mother dog risked her life to save her puppies from the fire surrounding the burning house,
which started because of a car bomb.

 The mother dog, Amanda, raced back and forth between the house, putting her 10 day old puppies in the safest place she could find - a firetruck!

She didn't stop racing back into the fire until all of her puppies were safely away from the fire. The firemen on scene could not believe their eyes. Most people have never seen a dog this smart or this brave!

After rescuing all of her pups from the blaze, Amanda sat down next to them, protecting them with her body. Onlookers called an emergency veterinary service and she and her pups were rushed to the hospital.
Aside from one puppy being treated for serious burns, the entire family are alive and well - thanks to the bravery of Amanda! What a heroic mother! :)

Update on Lucy

Sharon Davidson's foster baby Lucy is living life large in her forever home. Miss Lucy hit the puppy Lotto. Sharon's Vet opened her heart and home to this sweet baby.. Big change from her life alone on the streets of down town Baltimore. Sharon nursed her back to health and she became a large part of her family.

Thanks Sharon for your care of Lucy and for finding her the perfect forever home!

Congratulations to Maeby, who has found her forever home with her foster mom, Tammy Trivelpiece.  Tammy says that Maeby is a very sweet girl, and we know that she will be forever showered with love and happiness.  We couldn't be happier for both!
