Lily (formerly Puka) Gets a Pedicure!

From Lily's (Puka's) new mom, Bobbi Jo:
"Petunia, Ollivander, and Lily (previously Puka) getting treats. The girls got their nails done, and necklaces made for them from my daughter."
We are sooo happy for this sweet girl. She fits right in!!

Gizzie's new foster Roommate!

New Foster Ellie

Let's give a big NEBTR welcome to new foster Ellie, and many thanks to Erin Sullivan for opening her heart and home to her!

Lacey Goes to the Vet

We are now back from the vet and Lacey did GREAT!! she is 18.6 lbs. HW negative. Did xray for grade 3-4 heart murmur. She has a little bit of a big heart, but they don't see it as cause for alarm. Just to watch her for coughing or any signs of non activity. She does need a dental cleaning, but with her age and heart murmur I don't know if it such a good idea to put her under anasthesia or not.

She is adjusting well to the Manzella household and gets along great with all my resident (and foster) pets. She doesn't pay them any mind and they don't pay her any mind. She is the sweetest thing!! She follows me around a lot. but she sleeps a lot too! She doesn't play with toys at all which kinda makes me sad. She has no interest in them at all. She loves to give kisses and is sleeping in Max's crate all night. she sometimes sleeps in my sons room in the crook of his legs or between them when he is playing on his xbox. so praying this is a healthy 12 year old lady!!

Member Dog of the Day: Francis

Just wanted to show a couple pics of my fav girl and the reason I've gotten so interested in Bostons. Her name is Francis aka franny pants and she's actually a boston, frenchie mix. About 3 years ago my sister came home with this little brave pup with one ear down and one up who has basically taken over both our lives. I'm happy to be working with all of you and grateful I can give back..

Update on Chip In Dog Max Manzella Foster

Well, we are chugging along in Max's treatment. He goes back to Cornell on Monday for another (and hopefully his last) checkup. I was hoping for some transport help there because it is a LONG drive there and back. but anyway, he still has the cone on 24/7. I think he has gotten used to it...sort of. he so wants to play, but we have to keep his excitement to a minimum. We are still in a very critical stage, if his eye ruptures, game over the eye will have to be removed. as long as he keeps healing, we still have a chance to save his eye and his vision. He is on a strict course of drops and ointment every 2 hours. (six times a day). he still has to wear the cone for at least another 3 weeks. The drs think he is at about 75% cell regrowth of his cornea. but it is still too early to say how much vision if any he will have when we reach the finish line. No toys and no excitement. Have to keep him calm. poor boy. The adopters have decided not to adopt Max, for reasons other than his medical issues, so he will be available at the end of this journey. Still need prayers.

Chris Manzella

I am so sorry to hear that the adopters backed out. I am glad to hear that he is doing better. I do hope that he can get better and keep his eye.

He is so cute and good. The right family will come along for him.

Thank you for all that you are doing for him!!!! - Jenn H

Aww, it looks better.  The right adopters will come along when the time is right. - Denice S.

Wilbur Gets a Wheelchair

Wilbur just got a wheelchair!!  It's from www.dogcartsplus.com, check them out! Marc custom makes them from measurements. I attached 2 pics. We are trying to get Wilbur used to it so no pics of him on it yet.
Dogcartsplus makes them to the the needs of the dog by size and measurements. Marc is such a great guy just wanting to help the dogs.He offered NEBTR a wonderful discount.

And special thanks to Byron Graham of A1 Plumbing who purchased the cart for Wilbur.  Byron is always there for our dogs and we would like to give him a special salute!

Spot: What a Difference a Week Makes

This is Spot a week ago.  Scared, alone, frightened on death row in the NYC animal control.  To make matters worse, he had a severe eye issue with his left eye, which made him virtually unadoptable and virtually assured a death sentence.

The eye is still critical for him.  He will need continued care for it with an opthalmologist, and we have set up a chip in for his medical care.

But look at the difference in his personality!

His wonderful foster mom, Denice Schaak, writes:

"What a difference a week makes!
Thanks to this amazing group of volunteers, wonderful, loving, helpless dogs like "Spot" can be rescued from potential euthanasia in cold city shelters and offered the simple lives of love and happiness that they deserve.
Spot is the best boy, best patient, and best pet anyone could ask for.

He has been to 2 vet appointments, gets eye drops 3 times daily and oral medications twice daily, and doesn't flinch or struggle for anything.  He is loving, gentle, playful, handsome, and a complete gentleman with my other dogs, cat, and people he meets.

I am so proud of him.  He is going to make the best pet for some deserving family soon.
Denice,
Jackson, NJ

Denice - that is so amazing. SO incredible! I am not usually a fan of the name "Spot" but it does fit him!
He looks so handsome and loving.
You really took a chance on him Denice - his behavior evaluation including some biting.
But we know now that was due to stress and pain.
Thank you for loving Spot! - Jerrilyn

What a beautiful boy your Spot is, and what a difference a week makes.  He will be sure to be a blessing to his family. - Joy Burke

A Big Day for Max (Towner Foster)

Max knew that something was up.  He was clinging to his foster mom Bonnie so close all night and today. She noted, "I may be giving off emotions and he is picking up on them. His possible new owners will be here in about an hour - this is going to be rough for him and I both."

They arrived - and guess what!

"Loretta and Cameron fell in love with Max, but how could you not fall in love with him. They thought it was so funny how he only goes down to the second step in the pool to cool off.  I showed them what he knows of basic obedience I'm hoping they put him in a class because that is what helped Max and I to connect.I liked them and I think Max will have a wonderful new life;; he was on his best behavior so I was really proud of him. Wow it was harder than I thought and the tears did flow but they are happy tears for Max he so deserves a loving family.  They brought me a beautiful animal blanket for the next foster I take in to make them feel welcome into my home."

Wonderful news, Bonnie.  You found someone to love him for the dog he is.  :)- Chris Cassner

Job well done Bonnie!  He is going to be very happy, and you are going to miss him so much, but now you have a space to help another needy pup find furever love. - Denice S.

I would be shocked if the potential owners do not fall in love with Max. He was friendly and so well behaved at the Bethlehem PetCo event.

Lilly Likes to Play

Lilly proved she can play well with other girls! Here she is with my boxer, Ginger! I am so proud of her! Also, she has a family very interested. We are working on the meet and greet date. They have a fenced yard and male puppy that needs a playmate. Sounds like a perfect match to me! Fingers crossed

Message From McCoy

McCoy is Adopted

Well the Tritschlers couldn't wait to come and get their boy this morning! Everyone had been waiting for weeks, and the girls were buzzing with excitement! As soon as they saw him i heard the girls tell him "i love you". They're just the sweetest!

McCoy was SO excited he knocked poor Staci over! What a great match and a fabulous family. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures and stories of all the adventures they will have together. Thank you to everyone who helped to spring him from the shelter and get him to me, and to everyone who supported him along the way.

Today is one of the days that make all the tough days worth it for sure :)

 Erin

Oh my that is just precious Erin - simply amazing what you did for McCoy. Just weeks ago he was that pathetic dog on the Urgent list at the NYC ACC. Thanks for taking a chance on him and opening your home and heart to him.

Congratulations!!!  I know he'll be so happy.  I know you'll miss that adorable mug so much!

Big Thanks to Jodi Mosco Wasiak

Happy 5th Gotcha Day Buster and Lady!

Happy 5th Gotcha Day!
It's crazy to think that it's already been 5 years since we rescued Buster and Lady, and that both dogs will be 9 very soon!

Both dogs are doing well, and right now are just exhibiting age-related problems.  Lady's arthritis flares up a little more frequently than before, and she's had a few days recently where she's been on restrictions and not able to play as often as she would like.  Buster's pinched nerve acts up occasionally, but a little bracing helps resolve that.

They will constantly "battle" each other, one shoving the other out of the way for the preferred spot on the couch next to me, or the preferred spot in the sun that comes in through the doors and windows.  They really love Judith, and love her even more when she'll drop something during meals and snacks.  Both dogs, but especially Buster, love their blankets, and any blanket is fair game for burrowing.  If you can't find one of the dogs laying in the sun, it's a good bet that they're snuggled in a little blanket nest!

Happy 5th Gotcha Day, Buster & Lady!

Puppy Gifts

So precious....gotta love that puppy breath, too!!

Spot Sees an Opthalmologist

Spot saw a wonderful canine ophthalmologist yesterday, and unfortunately he does not have a good prognosis for his eye.  It will never be visual, never be normal, and will always be at higher risk for further injury and disease.

I'm kind of sad to have to face it, but in the end what I want for Spot is a wonderful life of comfort and Boston happiness.  Not 100% on how things will proceed.  Please continue to keep sweet Spot in your prayers.  He's such a good and loving boy.

Denice & Spot

Can't believe he's the same dog from his ACC photo. He's awfully handsome. I'm so sorry they cannot save his eye. :(
