Norman Says...

Foster Manley

Manley the blind Boston Terrier, was found wandering the streets of Long Island, alone, on a rainy night. A good Samaritan stopped and picked him up and rescued him and contacted the NEBTR, where Jane Tirc provided a warm and comforting foster home.

A story has now been written about Manley for the Amityville Record. Attached is a copy of that story. The story was written by one of the wonderful people who came to his rescue. It's a great one, and Manley thanks everyone who helped save him with endless kisses!

Update on Bizzy and Frodo

Both dogs are doing really really good. Heres some update info!

Frodo
Frodo is doing excellent with leash training and is making progress with potty training as well. He is like a little puppy, he plays for an hour or two and then just passes out for a quick nap before he starts playing again. Even with his bad dental disease he loves chewing on nylabones.

He went with us this weekend to Paws for a Cause and was complimented on how handsome he was. He found a boston girlfriend there that he liked too!

He is a little bit of a scaredy cat, anything sudden and he will let out a scared yelp. He got in trouble this weekend for picking on the cat; it wasn't all him though, my other 2 Bostons joined in as well.

He does not like to be given kisses. He will give you kisses for hours but he does not like it if you try to kiss him anywhere but his mouth. This is a little tough to take since his breath is so stinky! It would be nice to give him kisses but he quickly pulls away if you get anywhere near his head with your lips.

Overall, he is really doing great! He's even getting better with his jumping.

Bizzy
Bizzy cracks me up. She makes the best faces. She has a LOVE of playing fetch with her favorite toy, a frog. She is so good, she drops the frog for you right away so that you can throw it again. She will play fetch for hoooouuuurrrrrrssss. Her knee doesnt seem to bother her while she plays.. The only problem she has is when she hits the tile floor. Sometimes she loses her grip and goes sliding.

We noticed something with her tongue while playing fetch with her. She is missing some of it. Its hard to catch but there's def something missing. She is missing a piece of her tongue on the right side at the tip. Its slightly smaller than the size of a dime.

She is a little slower at learning potty training and walking on the leash but she is making progress. Unfortunately she didnt get to go to Paws for a Cause since she only likes Frodo, no one else. She loves people though! She gets so so so so so excited when she sees you and her whole body shakes. She is really a great little girl!

Sadie in Her Forever Home

Sadie is around 2 years old. She was an owner surrender due to problems with the resident Chow. Linda Antonelli fostered her. She was adopted by Christine Ullman and family and is their pride and joy. Congratulations to all! What a wonderful success story!

Quigley Ready to Be Adopted

Here is a recent picture of Quigley, our 9 month old special boy. He was born with Hypospadia. It is a condition that affected his urinary tract and this could not be left untreated. He underwent a series of surgeries to correct this problem and now he will live a wonderful and long life. The only difference between him and the other dogs is he now looks like a girl. Thanks to many friends, and to fabulous loving by his foster mother Heather Krock, Quigley's care was provided, and he now has a bright future ahead.

Missing Dog Found 10 Years, 1700 Miles Later

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- A dog missing from northern Virginia for a decade may soon be reunited with his owner after showing up in Oklahoma.

Tristan Rohde, 8, her family found Brindle under a bush in their Lawton, Okla., neighborhood a couple of weeks ago -- more than 1,300 miles from where he disappeared. The Rohdes thought Brindle was dead, but when he lifted his head, Tristan decided to take him in.

"If I didn't, then he would just be sitting there right now with no family, no friends, no nothing," she said.

The Rohdes took Brindle, who was near death, to a veterinarian who found a microchip with tracking information under Brindle's skin.

"I'm just so proud of my daughter being so caring like she is, taking in the dog that was probably knocking on heaven's door," said Tristan's father, Jon Rohde.

The family then used Facebook to track down Brindle's owner, Gary Rowley.

Brindle was a smart dog, Rowley said. He could open doors.

"He would hook his toenails into the side of the door and he opened it," Rowley said Wednesday.

On Super Bowl Sunday 1999, Brindle opened the door and never returned.

The circumstances surrounding Brindle's disappearance, past 10 years and incredible journey to Oklahoma are unknown.

"I'm not mad at the dog," Rowley joked. "All I want to ask him is, 'Why in the hell did you run off 10 years ago?'"

The reunion awaits Brindle's recuperation. He's not yet well enough to travel, but if the vet OKs him Friday, Brindle and Rowley could be together again next week.

Foster Norman

Norman was rescued from a shelter in Philadelphia, just days before being scheduled to be put to sleep.  The shelter staff loved him, and contacted the NEBTR, and we immediately picked him up.  He is now being lovingly fostered  by Amy Jansky. 


Amy writes,
"Here are some photos of Norman. He LOVES tennis balls!! Norman sends love, licks, and heartfelt THANKS to NEBTR for rescuing him!!"


Norman, previously days from death, is now available for adoption by a forever home.  Just look at that face!
