Richard/Poppi Pupdate
It's been awhile since I've posted a Richard update. Richard came from
a vet, so I had the luxury of waiting until his next booster shot to
schedule his vetting appointment. That appointment was today.
When Richard first came to NEBTR he had been diagnosed with a heart
murmur, and mild eye entropion. Today my vet couldn't detect a heart
murmur and his eye entropion is gone due to the growth of his face. :)
Richard does have one small problem. His right eye is smaller than his
left eye, and the vet feels that he has limited vision out of it. The
eye is not diseased, and it doesn't cause pain for Richard, it's just a
birth defect. So it seems Richard will always have a goofie right eye,
but I think it gives him character. He was a very good boy during his
vet appointment, and a the staff fell in love with him.
Richard is scheduled for adoption on March 16th. His new name will be
Poppi (Pop - E). He will have a home with a dog, 2 children (12 and 16
yrs), a big fenced yard, and a mom who stays at home. I'm really happy
to have found this perfect setting for Richard, oppps I mean, Poppi.
Richard knows to come to to his new name. He is puppy pad trained, and
he knows "sit." I'm very proud of him. :)

Thank you Chris, for all you did for Poppi to get to his forever home!

Beautiful Chloe
Just wanted to pass along a big thank you from Chloe and I! We opened her new foster package full of wonderful treats for her. She especially loved the tennis ball/sock pull toy and got really jazzed about it! That was the key to unlocking her really playful side! Then I read the note about how supporters give us the toys and treats for the care package and was really moved and wanted to make sure they know how directly they are impacting Chloe’s life! Hopefully these photos show how this sweet girl loved her mail! Thanks, Karen and Chloe
(editor note: we think this smiling girl is a beauty!)

Scooby Update
Hey all!
Just wanted to give you a check in on Scooby before I go on vacation. He's been a real joy in my house. He has come a long way since day one. He's very friendly towards other people, hasn't shown any aggression. He's a little unsure of new dogs, but doesn't immediately lunge after them, they smell each other, then sometimes if the other dog moves too quickly he gets scared. But he's the sweetest dog! Loves to follow me around the house and sits on my lap at night. He gives me good kisses!
He got his picture taken by my boyfriend who is a photographer/internet web guy for WPHL 17. Please enjoy! Sarah

Duncan - Old Dogs - New Tricks!
Just a little background - Duncan came into my foster care back in March with bad separation anxiety. He is 14 years old and came from a few previous owners who kept handing him off because of his inability to be contained in a crate. He would bark and panic and cause the neighbors to complain.
I work from home, so Duncan stays with me in my office all day. If I have to leave for an hour or two in the evening, I shut the door to my office and let him sleep on the couch in there. For a while, he did great, but for some reason, he regressed in the last month and has become very anxious again. Now when I leave, he paces and cries as well as urinates all over the office until I come home. It's even gotten so bad that the floors need replaced in my office.
My other two dogs are crate trained and they love it. I can tell they feel very secure in their crates and go in there without me even telling them to. I always know they are safe in their crates, and I think everyone benefits. So I have been working with Duncan to see if he can overcome his 14 years of crate anxiety.
I just started putting a crate with his favorite blankets in my office and leaving the crate door open. I put the crate next to my desk... and wouldn't you know, he's been in there the last 2 hours snoring away. He went in himself and isn't showing any signs of anxiety. (I hope the picture I attached is viewable). I think this is a huge triumph for Duncan and I am SO proud of him!! Yay Dunc!
