Happy 4th Gotcha Day, Norman

1186302_611127588940054_693004550_n

Our ball-obsessed, quirky boy is 13 ½ and still making us giggle.

Four and a half years ago, my beloved Abby was sick. She was my very first dog of my own and also a special-needs baby. For nine years, my world revolved around Abby and her medical needs. As I prepared to lose her, I searched for something that I could throw myself into to occupy my time and heal my heart. I reached out to several rescues, including Northeast Boston Terrier Rescue. Already having a Boston Terrier (my beloved Lucky), we already loved the breed and so the rescue was a natural fit for us.

A few months later, I received an email about Norman. Then nine years old, he was dumped at a high kill shelter and had one day left on his 3-day hold. Another NEBTR volunteer (Thank you, Sayre!) pulled him from the shelter and met me. I remember how excited I was - I stopped at the pet store on my way, picking up a new bed, collar, and toys for Norman. Little did I know how much my life would change that day.

Norman was the beginning of our rescue world. Very quirky, very skittish, and overall just a wacky guy, we fell in love with Normie's obsessive ball playing, gentle kisses, and on occasion, his affectionate behavior. Being older and having some health issues, Norman was a tough boy to find get adopted. We searched for months to find the right home for him, only to have that family return him after 1 week. As my husband and I picked up Norman that night, we could see the relief he felt to be back home with us. And so, a few days later, we officially signed adoption papers and welcomed him as a permanent member of the Jansky zoo.

Four years later, Norman is 13 1/2. He's blind, has bladder control issues, is still as ball-obsessed and quirky as ever, and begs for his Three Dog Bakery Sandwich Cookie treat every night. He's a goofy boy, but we love him - and he is the first dog that gave me that unparalleled feeling of saving a life.

Happy 4th Gotcha Day, Norman! We love you, buddy.

Happy Third Gotcha Day, Norman

I wanted to give a special Gotcha Day shout-out to NORMAN! Today is his THIRD gotcha day! I cannot believe we’ve had him for three years. He is the goofiest Boston I’ve ever met… he’s blind now,  and is still ball-obsessed. He goes nuts for Three Dog Bakery sandwich treats, gives funny kisses, and freaks out if he’s picked up… yup, he fits in perfectly here at the Jansky Zoo.

Norman puts his ball in his food bowl while he’s eating, in the water bowl while he’s drinking, and he frequently falls asleep with it in his mouth.

He was my very first foster ever… the nut that started my obsession with rescue. He’s a goofball, but we love him dearly and are happy to ha ve him in our lives.

Happy 3rd Gotcha Day, Normie Boy!

Hope you all are well!

Our Normie Boy turns 12 on Wednesday! He’s as ball-obsessed as ever, despite being blind. He’s a good boy and we love him.

Happy Gotcha Day Norman!

Today is our Normie Boy’s 2nd Gotcha Day. Two years ago today Sayre met me at McDonald’s in Lancaster County with my very first Boston foster. After being in foster care for several months, he was adopted to a family who returned him 4 days later. We anxiously drove to Harrisburg to get him back. Typically very nervous in the car, Norman curled up on my lap that ride home. I knew at that moment he wasn’t going anywhere. I could write a novel of all the hysterical stories we have had with this boy. He’s 11 ½ now, has poor vision and occasional incontinence issues, but is still very active, crazy as ever about his bouncy balls, and snuggles up with me in bed every night.

Happy Gotcha Day, Norman!!

Happy Gotcha Day Norman

I wanted to share Norman’s Gotcha Day collage with everyone. We celebrated his gotcha day back in September, marking the year anniversary of the day that we started fostering him. It was last January though that he officially became a Jansky.  He is still typical Normie Boy… as ball-obsessed as ever. His current favorite is a rubber ball that is shaped like a lime. Luckily we have two of them, so when he forgets where he left one, I can usually locate the second and thus avoid total meltdown. As a lot of you know, when he becomes frantic over something, his manly parts tend to pop out and get stuck in the out position… once a totally mortifying experience for me, but now, oddly normal. He’s not always fond of our new fosters. Tends to growl and snap at them, and then promptly proceeds to mark his territory. Needless to say, he now has quite an array of stylish belly bands and has been deemed “Grump-a-Norm”. But, nonetheless, we love our grumpy old man. His birthday is Feb. 2nd – so pupcakes are certainly in order. He (supposedly) will be 11, but I find that hard to believe. He still does not have an ounce of gray on him.

Hope all is well. Norm sends his love and continued gratitude to NEBTR.

Norman Wants His Christmas Present

Wanted to share this pic... Norman somehow knows that there is a new squeaky ball for him in the box of Christmas stuff I ordered. He left his favorite ball outside in the snow this AM, so thinks it's only fair for him to have his new one now. He keeps staring at the boxes, occassionally crying. I can't look at him too long because he's acting so pathetic, I know I'll give in... probably time for me to put on my snow boots and find the ball outside!

Hope all your fur-kids are enjoying the snow as much as mine. :-) We had about 4 inches here.

Foster Norman

Just wanted to share these two photos of Norman because they show that he's good with other dogs. He prefers people... he doesn't actively seek out playtime with my other dogs, but he is very tolerant and good with them. He does enjoy playing fetch with my white bulldog, Molly, though.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Foster Norman

Norman was rescued from a shelter in Philadelphia, just days before being scheduled to be put to sleep.  The shelter staff loved him, and contacted the NEBTR, and we immediately picked him up.  He is now being lovingly fostered  by Amy Jansky.

Amy writes,
"Here are some photos of Norman. He LOVES tennis balls!! Norman sends love, licks, and heartfelt THANKS to NEBTR for rescuing him!!"

Norman, previously days from death, is now available for adoption by a forever home.  Just look at that face!
