Tammy Trivelpiece's Gifts

Special thanks to Tammy Trivelpiece, fabulous foster mom, for her gift this holiday season in memory of two of her fosters, Pugsley and Mami.  These two souls entered into her home for foster care, and remained loved there for the rest of their lives, knowing nothing but the best of everything.

Now, this Christmas time, a new Boston, Maeby, has entered Tammy's heart and she will have that same care for the rest of her life.  What a beauty she is!  We believe that Mami and Pugsley have sent her this gift in return for all she did for them.

Tammy writes, 

"My Family and I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday, and a great New Year.

We have personally suffered many passings of dear fur kids and friends this year, but we still believe that life does go on and there are so many more needing our help. We try our best to be part of the "BIGGER" picture and could not do it without the support and guidance YOU all have shared!

Thanks to all of you for your part in helping all furkids the way to a safe and warm forever home!!!

Thanks to Sheryl for Believing in me many years ago when I desperately was looking for help for an Old Gal in our kill shelter. We brought Sassy home and gave her the love she needed until her forever home was found. That was our first Boston Foster.

Many years and more fosters later, we are very proud of the work we have done with NEBTR and hope that the coming year will prove the same.

So, Have a great Holiday everyone! kiss your furkids, tell them that you love them, and Thank them for all the help they have given you.
Because deep down, they help us as much as we help them.

Mami Goes to the Rainbow Bride

Mami, the little girl who was so lovingly fostered by Tammy Trivelpiece, has gone to the rainbow bridge.  What a wonderful gift to be able to help a dog in need. Thank you for helping Mami and making her happy.

Tammy writes, "Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers! Mami was indeed a special little dog. We foster for a reason! To give every dog a second chance or just to give them dignity before they move on to the rainbow bridge. It isn't easy...never ever easy losing a pet even if it is just a foster. We had Mami over a year! We thought her cancer would have gotten the best of her way before that, but she thrived, and gained weight. We loved her, spoiled her and gave her her own little special place to spend what time she did have without the other dogs bothering her. People always ask me, "how do you do it?" I reply, "BECAUSE they need me" I love all my dogs. even every foster that has come through our door in the past 10 years. I wouldn't change a thing for the world!"

Tammy adds,  "Here is a poem I wrote the day we helped Mami to the rainbow Bridge. As she was laying in John;s arms and I was petting her softly, I pulled out a piece of paper and jotted down a few words I know that Mami was thinking. I put the paper away deep in my purse, but as I was cleaning it out to get it ready for vacation, I came across it.

Don't cry for me, For I am loved. Place me in your hearts for that is where I always be.
 I came to you thin, frail and broken. You gave me love and food.
I finally knew what "living" was all about!
I may have been blind and hard of hearing, but you gave me internal sight and soothing words that I will forever treasure.
You saved me from the unthinkable, I gave you my uncondtional love.
Don't grieve for me, for I am whole again. You are my special Human and I will always watch over you. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for your kindness.
I will be waiting to see you at the Bridge.

Sorry if I made you cry... but I just want you all to know that Fostering Mami has given my family a new meaning of the word. We can foster dogs our whole lives....but it is that end look of gratitude that you see that makes this job the most valuable job on earth. Run free Mami! Run Free

Update on Mami

Tammy Trivelpiece, Mami's dedicated and fabulous foster mom, reports on Mami's progress. Tammy notes, "Mami is still going stong. We keep her as comfortable as possible and give her lots of love. She is such a good girl. Knows her routine, loves to play with her stuffy as long as we hold it in front of her. (LOL) Otherwise she has no idea where the heck it is.

Obviously she will continue to have good days and bad. This week, has been a bit better for her. My husband spoils her rotten. He will take her out in the large area where the other dogs are not allowed and will let her wander around the grass for as long as she wants. Then when he brings her in he will sit on the floor with her and rub her belly.

Not that I don't spoil her, but I think she likes her time with him because its usually around 9 pm when its a bit cooler and not so hectic."

Mami was a recent featured Chip-In dog. NEBTR received an email from ACCT in Philadelphia about a dog that was surrendered. She was definitely an urgent case because she was estimated at 10 years old, blind with sores all over her body. There is no way she would have made it out of the shelter. Our volunteers quickly jumped in and our hard working Intake volunteers found someone to pull her right away. Then Tammy stepped forward to foster her knowing that she will probably be a permanent foster and would be at her home for whatever time she had left.

Mami was taken to vet and she was a real mess, most likely from years of neglect. Just by looking at her there was no doubt this sweet girl was not living a comfortable life of love and care. She had sores and growths all over her body and her nails were so long they were curled up into her pads. The vet confirmed that she is blind, nearly deaf, the second worst case of hips they’ve ever seen, bad knees, missing teeth and we were sad to hear that her white blood cell count is extremely elevated.

After all the pain she has suffered through, she was worthy of every penny, and because of NEBTR volunteers like Tammy and her husband, Mami is knowing love for the first time in her life.

Update on Mami

YEP! she is doing really well.

We keep her safe and as comfortable as possible.

She sure is full of it though! She romps around, plays with a toy, (when she finds it)! lol and loves those belly rubs.  She really is doing very well.

We are actually quite surprised at how well she is getting along, and eating etc.

We are happy to have her here!

Welcome Mami

Hi All--Here's a picture of an awesome sweet old girl pulled from the ASPCA in PHL (this ASPCA is a wonderful partner with us). Lisa V. drove down in the nasty weather to grab her and Tammy T. will be fostering her. She's at LEAST 10 y/o and completely blind. Her nails were growing into her pads. Lisa has already gotten her a much needed mani/pedi. Welcome, Mami!! We promise you will never be scared, cold, hungry, hurting or alone again. Ever
