Daphne Update

I just got off the phone with Valerie, Daphne's new mom. I must say that I am very pleased to say that things are going wonderfully! Daphne came out of her crate yesterday, and pottied outside with the other dogs. She now has a fenced in yard to run, and came back in all by herself with her new "pack". She also was out and about with her dog brother and sister for a ride in the car to Petsmart. Valerie said that she walks better on a leash then all the others! She even got to sleep in bed with them last night. Which I am sure that she loved! She is bonding especially with her new dad, Kevin. Valerie says that she thinks it's because he gives her lots of food, go figure. Talking to her definitely confirmed my thoughts of her being a great fit with their family. Valerie said that she put Daphne up on the couch yesterday for a nap and she crawled right over to her son, who was sleeping there as well, and they were nose to nose! Daphne Has a Forever Home!

Hello All,

I took Daphne (my puppymill girl) to her new owners in Jersey today! She will be one of four dogs that they have (two bostons and a cockapoo). She will also have a 3 year old kid brother and a 7 year old sister. Things went fairly well with the drop off, but Daphne was very timid and ran into the crate to be next to Shaba (their 10 year old boston). I assured Valerie that this was normal behavior for her and that I was sure that she would come out of her shell fairly quickly when she realized that they weren't out to hurt her. She was doing very well, and progressing greatly at my home. I think that this will be a very good fit for her, and feel confident that she is with a loving family who will take the time to work with her. I made Valerie promise that she would send me lots of pics and updates. I will also give her a call on Monday to see how she is doing. Thanks again to all who helped me give this girl a wonderful new life!

Daphne's Progress

I just wanted to give a recent update on Daphne (the puppy mill girl from last weekend). My husband had her to the vet on Tuesday and everything turned out great for her! No infections or parasites, Yeah! The vet did say that she has very dry skin and her teeth were in pretty bad shape. I am still waiting to hear the results of her blood test, hopefully by tomorrow. I need to have her taken back for her inoculations, and when I hear back about the blood test, I can have her spayed right away. She has made a few strides since she has been here. She does spend a lot of time in her crate in my kitchen, which is where she is most comfortable. She is very timid, but has shown some curiosity as well. She is not a big fan of being picked up though. I do not have a fenced in yard like some of you other fortunate ones, but I have started to take her outside to go to the bathroom. I have a retractable leash, which helps. I also noticed that when I take her out with my Odie, she is very alert as to what he is doing. At first, she would just stand there and sniff, but yesterday morning she started to sniff around the yard. She did not have one accident in the house yesterday, but did not poop at all. She will usually try to sneak it in the kitchen when I am not looking. She did do both outside this morning which I was very pleased. I graduated her up to my bedroom last night. I keep her in her crate with the door shut at night so I can try to work on the potty issue. However, the only problem I am facing is that I have to practically tackle her to pick her up after we are done outside. She just flips out! I am also afraid that she is going to slip out of her harness, because it is not the greatest fit, but fits better than the other sizes. Any suggestions??? I am wondering if I am starting this off way too soon, but feel that she has to learn that it is okay to be touched. I don't want to force her either. It will be a great day when she learns to follow Odie up and down the stairs. When I bring her inside, she usually will look and explore around the house, but then a within a few minutes makes her way back inside her crate. Poor things teeth just chatter! I have never heard that before. She is a very quiet, lackadaisial dog, and I hardly even know that she is here. She doesn't make a peep! She also seems to be eating and drinking for the most part except for this morning, she ate nothing. The funny thing too is that I had my friend over last night (who is pregnant), and Daphne sniffed her hand and even let her pet and pick her up! I was amazed as she won't do that for me. I am wondering if she senses that Tess is pregnant and doesn't see her as a threat.....amazing! I am also wondering if she is mixed with frenchie? I looked up frenchie/boston mix and they look just like her! I will send pics soon.

Her Name Will Be Daphne

Well I finally had a chance to meet Jodi and bring home my beautiful new mill survivor. My husband and I are having a hard time agreeing on a name for her, but I am going to call her Daphne. She is definitely not a full Boston though as she is all black with some white on her chest. She looks like the sweetest little thing. When we brought her home, she finally settled in, and was roaming my kitchen. She has been out of her crate sniffing around for the past hour, and she even ate! She shows much interest in my dogs as she was sniffing them through the baby gate. She is very skittish and scared, but I have a crate with a bed and a blanket over it for her to go in and out of for her comfort. She seems very comfortable in there as she is laying in there now. She makes eye contact with me and will even sniff my hand before I go to pet her. She definitely seems curious...poor thing just breaks my heart. I have her first vet appointment scheduled for tomorrow evening so hopefully things will be okay there. She looks in good shape. Her fur is nice and thick, but her nails need a good trim and her posterior teeth are not the greatest. I will let you know more when I do. For now, I will let her get some much needed rest and hopefully she will be more at home soon. I will post pics soon.
