Update on Goober, now Cooper - Happy Birthday!

Former Foster Goober who is now Cooper turns 11 today. Cooper came to us missing almost all of his hair from lack of attention to his allergies. See below for an update from his Mommy!

Hi Lisa:
Yeah, Cooper turns 11 on Monday, February 27th. Like Jackson, he’ll get a hamburger for dinner since he’s not allergic to beef.

He’s been getting his allergy shots every other day since February 4th. After March 5th, he’ll get one every 10 days; after April 18th every 14 days; after July 4th, every 21 days. It may take 4-9 months for him to respond but nonetheless, he needed the serum.

He’s also on a 28 day antibiotic, Baytril, since his fungus/bacterial skin infection reoccurred…it is helping him tremendously…it’s brought on by his allergies.

His quick in his nails is receding since I get them trimmed every month. It helps him to walk better too. But he still does the Coopie Tap!

From the allergy blood test, we found that he is allergic to multiple things!

Goober Goes to His Forever Home

My Oobie Goobie Gooberson was adopted last Thursday. He went to live with Kelley Simmons and her daughter in Delaware.

For those that dont remember, Goober was on the Euth list at the SPCA in New York. His owners dropped him there to be put to sleep because he was "too sick". Tara B worked fast to get him pulled before it was too late and he was on his way to us in PA. When he arrived he was missing most of his hair. We suspected mange but figured out over time that it was allergies that had been neglected for a very long time.

Goober spent the next few months trying new foods and new meds. His hair started to grow back rapidly. He went from not moving at all because of how uncomfortable he was, to chugging his little butt all over the house and demanding walks. He is a complete lovebug and had become quite the mommas boy. He also became quite famous on our facebook page, people actually emailed Sheryl asking for more updates. He is our little celebrity.

While many thought he would be my first failed foster ;) I stuck to the thought that we would only adopt him out if someone better than us came along, figured I was pretty safe there! Well, I thought wrong. The Simmons specifically wanted Goober, they were well versed in his allergy issues and any problems he could develop down the road, and they had a quiet home for him to spend his senior days in. I couldn't compete.

Goober has been doing great in his new home. They love him to death. He has been given the royal spa treatment and they play with him constantly. They have already taught him "sit" and are working on "down".

I couldn't have asked for anything better for my little grumbly old man.

Update on Foster Goober

Goober is doing very well.

He is happy as can be and quite the demanding little man. He loves to go for his short walks and will push to the front of the door to be able to go. He spends most of his evenings curled up on my lap, he usually stands at the bottom of the sofa and stares at me until I pick him up. He does not like when the other puppies on the sofa stretch and bump him and he will give them a little snap or growl to tell them so. He usually curls up inside my legs to avoid any other puppies touching him.

He is a gentle kisser and quite the nuzzler. At the end of every day, I look forward to my Goobie dance when I come home, he sounds like hes tap dancing. He dances until I pick him up, then he gives me my kisses. He has been eating great and loves his chewies.

At his last vet visit, he had gained a pound and was given an A+. His hair is 90% grown back, I'm not sure that the last 10% will ever grow back. His flare ups are almost non existent. His energy level has also shot up since he is feeling better. He is like a whole new Goobie.

Update on Foster Goober

Goober is coming along wonderfully. He went from sleeping 24/7 to moving all over the place. He recently started playing with toys, chewing bones, wrestling me, playing chase and he went for his first walk!! You can see the pics of his walk attached.

He is feeling so much better that this naughty boy has started to hump!

We continue to feed him mackeral, salmon, and brown rice. He gets his 2nd dose of Revolution on Friday. He has put on some more weight and looks much better. His hair is growing back and the dead skin is falling off like crazy. His scabs are clearing up too.

Update on Goober

Mr Goober is doing better....or at least as good as he can be.

He had his vet visit. He was scraped for Mange and came back negative so he is being treated for sarcoptic just in case. His temp was a little high. His bloodwork all came back good, thyroid was a little low though. He weighs roughly 22 lbs.

In the past few days we have been giving him Prednisone, Benadryl, Tresaderm for his ears and lots of TLC. He is on a diet of strictly salmon and brown rice with some fish oil mixed in. His redness has gone down. His skin is starting to flake, almost like all the scales falling off a fish. Hopefully this is a sign of healing.

He seems happier. Still sleeps most of the time but has been a little peppier and affectionate. He is attempting to push the gate down now because he wants to join the rest of the pack. Poor little guy has a ways to go before that can happen.


Goober is going to look so good once he gets better. He is so thankful for Tara Bruno pulling him before the unspeakable happened!

New Foster Goober

Meet Goober!

Goober was pulled out of the Manhattan shelter just in time. He was slated for the euth list. He is roughly 10 and a complete sweetheart.

He will be going to the vet today; we suspect mange and maybe a respiratory infection.

We will be working with Mr Goobs to get him back up and running. Updates on his skin to come!
