Former Foster Teddy

Former foster Teddy was in NEBTR's foster care for over year. In that time he became blind, albeit with every effort from the specialists at Cornell to keep his vision. We wondered if anybody would see the beauty in him that we did. And then came Dr Fred and Hazel in MD who saw it all too. They adopted him just over a year ago and Teddy has lived a life full of love from them and their other dogs who help him see. Funny thing was that Teddy didn't like the other dogs in his foster home. Teddy loves everybody in his new home now. Yeah Teddy!

Personal Space for Your Canine Family

Great use of under-stair space :)

New Foster Porter

Porter2

So Porter has finally arrived!!  He is absolutely adorable. He is a little 17lb brindle boy w a splash face and blue eyes. His coat has blue & cream & lilac!!  He's very handsome and very energetic and spry!

Porter is up to date on his shots, house broken, crate trained and knows basic commands. He has some separation anxiety and needs to be crated when alone.  He does not do well with children.  He is very loving but territorial of his owners and a bit jealous, so he'd be best as an only dog.  He's getting along very well with Lola, no aggression at all. They ran themselves ragged and are now passed out!

This gorgeous boy is going to be available very soon and make a great companion!!!  He is a little Velcro-man!

Thank you from all of us, Jennifer, for opening your heart and home to this boy!

More on Rocky II

rockyII

Rocky has settled in. I am amazed by him, to be honest. Really loving him!! He knows drop, sit, paw, down, and will do all of them while waiting for me to throw the ball. And he is obsessed with playing ball so I can see that this is an incredible task for the little guy. I started working on "back up" after he drops the ball so that he backs away instead of going after the ball again and again as I grab it and throw. At first I thought it was just a coincidence but he kept listening to me when I said it. On the video he sits off camera but you see it the second time when he comes back. Teary thinking about how good he is. So far so good ... !

Thanks so much, Erin, for taking this boy into your loving home so that Maria could concentrate on the other dogs in her care.  I know that Rocky will blossom with Erin’s love!

A Loving Mom Says Farewell to Iggy

There is a beautiful story that goes with this picture, but I was not able to post it in the blog.  I've included the link to this wonderful tribute/memoir about Iggy and his forever family, written by  Linda Brain Beck, Iggy's forever mom.
http://backofthepackview.blogspot.com/2013/05/a-boy-two-parents-and-dog-not-story.html

Thank you, Linda, for sharing this with NEBTR, from whom you adopted Iggy.

Erin and Dash Thanks

Erin Sullivan speaks for her rescue, Dash:
A big "thank you" to the nice human who donated Dash's new natural hemp collar for his sensitive skin! He tried it on right after his outdoor bath, and it looks great! Don't you think?

Nitro, Good By

Its with an extremely heavy heart and tears streaming down my face that I write this.....Nitro went to the rainbow bridge last night after battling a respiratory infection for a week. He was 15 years, 7 months, and 11 days old.

Nitro came to us in March of 2012 with the help of the owners son's and Jerrilyn we were able to get him to me. When he arrived his teeth were so bad he was oozing brown liquid and lethargic. He went through mouth surgery at 14 1/2 with a Gr 3 heart murmur and pulled through with flying colors and became a different dog. A happy dog. He spent the next 14 months being spoiled and loved like every dog deserves. His favorite activities were lying in the sun, licking his foster siblings, sleeping, and going for very slow walks.

Your outpouring of love and support for both he and I means the world to me. He is such a lucky little man to have so many people that love him so much and i am so lucky to have had 14 wonderful months with him.

The last week was heartbreaking but I am comforted to know that he is running free now. He spent his last 4 hours last night in my arms and took his last breath while I held him close. Im thankful that i was there to be with him and spend his final hours holding and comforting him.
Im going to miss my little old man terribly and I know all of you are as well.
I love you little man
His foster momma,
Lisa

Lisa, you have made Nitro's life so happy with your loving home and heart, thank you for being who you are.

Nitro Goes to the Rainbow Bridge

I knew this day was coming soon but it doesn’t make it any easier. Nitro went to the rainbow bridge last night after battling a respiratory infection for a week.

Nitro came to us 14 months ago when his former own wanted him put to sleep for having accidents. With the help of the owner’s sons and Jerrilyn, we were able to get him to me. When he arrived his teeth were so bad he was oozing brown liquid and lethargic.  He went through mouth surgery at 14 1/2 and pulled through with flying colors and became a different dog. A happy dog. He spent the next 14 months being spoiled and loved.

While in NEBTR he has become somewhat of a celebrity for the group. So many people showed so much love and support for him while he was going through this tough time. He is such a lucky little man and I am so lucky to have had 14 months with him. He was 15 years, 7 months, and 11 days old.

The last week was heartbreaking but I am comforted to know that he is running free now. He spent his last 4 hours last night in my arms and took his last breath while i held him close. I’m thankful that i was there to be with him and spend his final hours holding him.

I’m going to miss him terribly.

Lisa, thank you so much for loving him and not giving up on him.  You opened your arms up to him when his owners turned their back on him. You showed him love, care, comfort, joy, happiness... everything he deserved. The true definition of rescue. We will all miss him.  We are sure that he knew how much you loved him!  Run free, Nitro.

Farewell Mugsy

We just wanted to let everyone know that our beloved Mugsy crossed the rainbow bridge this morning. We adopted him from NEBTR 2 years ago when his owners dumped him because he was diabetic. He has been an amazing companion and friend and we are so thankful we could give him another chance at life. Thank you NEBTR!

Thank you Lisa Fink Shampaner for opening your heart and home to a Boston in need of a loving home.  May loving thoughts sustain your memories.

New Foster Tuxy Girl

922982_10151380980526791_224076238_n

Tuxy Girl is a one year old Boston who found herself at the Cumberland County NJ shelter.   Prior to that, Tuxy Girl was kept outside and when she was allowed inside it was only in a crate. She's a bit of a mess from this upbringing, but still young and deserves a bright future going forward.

Thanks to foster Moms Erin Hanlon and Kate O’Brien for offering their hearts and home to this girl.
