Penny Lane is Adopted

 

I have rescued dozens of dogs but rescuing a puppy mill dog is a WHOLE new experience...I struggled with letting her go... My dogs adored her but the family who adopted her was PERFECT>>>>> Stay at home Mom, with Ozzie the deaf Boston terrier who they adopted in December.  He needs a friend.  Penny and Ozzie hit it off right away and more importantly she seemed to love the family and their daughter...  They also adopted a 12 year old girl who they adored for the last two years of her life.

She is my amazing girl- 8 years in a cage and after 13 weeks housetrained, showing affection, loves walks.  Penny Lane was the perfect dog for my family but more importantly she the The most perfect dog for their family. She will get the love and companionship that she deserves... Cried for hours today but I know in my heart she is HOME....Lucky, lucky me to have had her in my life.  She was a gift.

I had decided that Penny had made such great progress that I wanted to expand her horizons. She now stays on my ned at night and during the day, when I am work, without incident She has become more affectionate and seems to really enjoy walks and hugs. I wanted her to do more than sleep all day and with trepidation I took her to doggie playcare for evaluation. I know some of the staff there and they are wonderful- actually helping me to adopt two of my pittie rescues...I explained her situation and told them to be patient with her.. Within one minute she was behind the desk with another doggie buddy( she likes other dogs) helping to greet other dogs and their owners... While she never actually engaged in play with other dogs, she seemed to enjoy herself and was, as usual, curious about all of the activities. She actually sought affection many times when other dogs were getting pets and hugs from the staff. It was a wonderful experience and this girl came alive. I int end to bring her there at least one day a week. Penny IS the woman.

Former mill girl Penny Lane  and she was always curious- albeit afraid so I have been so lucky. I got her to stay in my bedroom by filling n empty bone with Cheese Whiz.and placing it in the open crate and in the cuddle bed in my bedroom. She is now with me all of the time in my bedroom when I am home. She had bad teeth and didn't like peanut butter. I only feed her the best dog food but I feel that for socialization the bad nutrients might be worth it considering she spent 8 years in a cage..My dogs have taught her a lot and she  seems to like them..in 7-8 weeks she has gone from sleeping in an open crate in an office with wee pads and showers curtains to sleeping in her cuddle bed- to sleeping in my bed. She does, however, have to stay in her office condo when I  am at work . I keep the radio on and have a bone with a drop of cheese whiz in her open crate. Penny now snuggles beside me- looks for pets and seems to want attention- far cry from the shivering puppy mill girl I received.

New Foster Penny Lane

Meet Penny Lane( I am a huge beatles fan). Her name should really be yoda or bunny...This girl continues to amaze me with every passing minute. She was in a puppy mill for at least 8 years - in a cage- never knowing human kindness; never smelling grass or eating food from a bowl, you know the drill... She was shaking  and stinky when Jodi Groff( ANGEL) met me and gave me this treasure.. Took her for a bath and grooming at Petmsart( I have rescued many dogs so they fit me in).

She loves my dogs and my two rescues( my own dogs) adore her. My one girl ,Chelsea( 7 years old)  has seemed to adopt her and is trying to engage her in a squeaky ball play( a first for Chelsea). Sweet Penny will now walk on a leash, eat from a bowl, allow me to massage her, follows all of us around in the house. She is with me in the bedroom in a pet bed which I enticed her in by putting a small soft treat in an open bone..

She has rotten teeth. She was supposed to be spayed and have her two really bad teeth removed tomorrow but she has terrible itchy skin. I initially gave her chicken and rice for about 8 days and then gave her Blue small breed food with innova whitefish( recommended by a Boston terrier owner whose dog had major food allergies). She has been itching her body since I received her but she started licking her paws and now has a huge boo-boo in between the toes on her paws.... The vet gave her a shot and prenizone and an antibiotic to help deal with this. The sore she created was huge.. This does not address the origin of the problem and I hope to address this issue with Linda today.

She is amazing - she is a wonder girl and here come the pictures.....I have rescue Many dogs but she is the treasure...She has taught me so much...and I pray that I can offer her a better life.

New Foster Penny Lane

Penny Lane came from the same puppy mill in Indiana as Bella Boo.

Her foster mom Sharon Sweeney writes,

New Foster Bella Boo

Hi everyone!!! I'm fostering a puppy mill girl from Indiana. I named her Bella Boo!!!

She came from a puppy mill in Indiana with foster Penny Lane. She is around 6 to 7 years young and in got a clean bill of health from my vet.

She is a love bug and a beautiful soul. She gets along well with my two dogs and met my rabbit today and is very good with her as well.She has the most soulful eyes!!!  She is the sweetest being and is such a good girl.  She doesn't mess up her crate, she's a cuddle bunny, she's very respectful, and goes potty outside with my other two dogs!!!

She was terrified on day 1 and was in bad shape. Day 3, she is more relaxed. She is a total love bug!!!
She is well mannered, goes potty outside with my other two dogs, and crate trained. She keeps her crate spotless. No anxiety or separation issues. She's good on a leash on our walks. Ignores other dogs and people if they walk by her. She met two preschoolers on our walk and she was very gentle with them and gave them little kisses. The kids loved her!!

As with all puppy mill dogs, she doesn't know how to play yet, what a toy is, etc.... I've only had her for a week and a half and she is slowly venturing out of her crate when I call her...yes, she knows her name. Miss Bella Boo is a smart cookie.

The only thing I see that she needs work on is getting her comfortable with the rest of my home. I'm using a leash so she can be with me when I move around the house and provolone cheese as a reward. I'm giving myself another three weeks and hopefully she will be ready by then.

She will make someone very happy...

UPDATE:

 We went on our first walk on Sunday along with my Boxer, Jess.  She did very well on the walk.  This morning we went for another walk and she was a natural...like she's been doing it for all her life.  We met up with two preschoolers with their mom and she was very gentle with them.  Gave them little kisses and they loved Bella Boo.

She is potty trained to go outside with my other two dogs and I can see that she is much more relaxed with going out in the yard with them.  So far the only thing that is going slow, is that she still views her crate as the "safe zone".  Each day I am taking her on the leash to explore another part of my home, but she's not thrilled with doing that....so I'm not forcing her.

She will make someone a great family member!!!
