New Foster, Spike
Just some info on Spike..
"I had to surrender him (sadly) because I had taken him from my father (he has lung cancer and couldn't keep him) and I wasn't home enough to really give him the personal attention he so badly needed. My other dogs were not very happy with his upbeat personality and we didn't have a fenced yard (Spike likes to run and we live near a busy road.) He is a lover, good with kids and other pets. Very Sweet boy. I am so glad I found this rescue to give him the kind of happy life he so deserves. He looks wonderful! Thank You NEBTR"
Thank you, Rachel, for having the wisdom to surrender him to NEBTR when you realized he needed more attention than you were able to give. And special thanks to Chris Cassner for being the foster Mom to this cutie!
Chris noted, "Jerrilyn emailed me today asking if I could go into the mountains to get
a Boston named Spike. Like I'm gonna say "no" to THE best Boston
tracker there is! lol"

Mandy Plays with Ozzie
Another milestone!
A HUGE one. Just beautiful to see, Leslie. You must be so proud of her. You are the miracle worker!
Clarisse’s Second Day
Clarisse on her first night – very scared and frightened.
Second day: Clarisse also found a new sleeping spot outside of her cage.
Clarisse has decided to get up and explore a little bit....
I agree with you Victoria..something did guide me. When I was at work, I just knew I could find her if I went and looked. I nearly broke down when I finally spotted her.
She is just back from the vet. They hydrated her and gave me meds for her infected eye.
She is on the road to recovery.
Jerrilyn Walter
Jerrilyn,
Thanks so much for the updates. We all are so concerned about this precious girl, and
the condition you found her in. This news is so inspiring and you saved this girls life. There
needs to be more people in the world like you. You may think that what you did
is no big deal, but it is a HUGE deal for Clarisse. Please keep the pictures coming,
You will have great great karma.
Ellen Hansen
Can't help but to fall in love with this sleeping beauty. So glad to hear she came out of her crate. I bet a nap on a nice bed or couch is something she can't take for granted. I can only imagine how nice that felt for her
Thanks,
Erica Eshelman
She looks so peaceful. I bet it has been a long time since
she had something soft and warm to sleep on.
Thank you so much Jerrilyn.

More on Patsy
I picked up Patsy on 6/15. She was emaciated and had extremely dry skin. Patsy is 14 1/2 years old. Her former owner passed away last November and she was forced to remain in the home without any human contact for the past 6 months. She remained on her own....lonely and most likely mourning the loss of her owner.
Miss Patsy was attacked by two pitbulls in her own back yard this past May. I don't know how she survived!!! She has a strong will to live and she now deserves the best life possible!!!
During the first four days, she was in a lot of gastric pain. She is now pain free, well rested, well fed, and is showing a playful side of her.
Bless the seniors...they are not throw away dogs!!!!
Patti Maddamma
Thank you so much for taking her in, Patti. It takes a special kind of person to do this. Bless you Patti, for taking this girl in and showing her love.We have a real soft spot for the senior dogs. Although we can't fix the past, we can control the future and hers is definitely looking up and will be much brighter.

Another Miracle Save
Yesterday a Brooklyn couple found a blind, very old and disoriented BT roaming around Bayridge.
They brought him to a local vet and paid or him to be examined and re-hydrated. They couldn't keep the guy; they have a difficult German Shepard at home. The vet said their only option was Animal Care & Control and added that a dog that old would never get adopted, that the other choice would be to wait a few days and put him down.
The couple was despondent and it a difficult situation. They miraculously found NEBTR and Jerrilyn Walter and Sheryl Trent sprang into action (as they always do!). They contacted me (a NEBTR volunteer) and I took him in. Poor guy was bumping into walls, very confused.
I posted on Craigslist, ACC, FB and a couple of other local missing dog organizations and... Drum roll.... At 1 am I heard from "Edgar # 39's" owners. They were crying tears of joy when they got him. They'd had him since he was 6 Wks and he's now 14!!! They promised to microchip him TODAY (I will be following up with that!). I also told them about NEBTR so I hope they will express their thanks in toward our little group.
So many sad stories, its always nice to have a happy ending! Takes a lot of people to get a dog to the right home. Thanks NEBTR!
-- Rebecca Bazell
Many thanks to Rebecca Bazell, Sheryl Trent and Jerrilyn Walter: good karma earned for all of you, you made it happen. So awesome. Two amazing stories in one week! Bless you Rebecca for taking him in. So glad he his home with his family. Poor baby must have been scared to death! And Sheryl and Jerrilyn, once again, thank you for all you do!
Jerrilyn Rescues Clarisse
NEBTR has some amazing volunteers...and here is a story about new foster Clarisse and Jerrilyn Walter’s amazing rescue!
"Yesterday we received an email from a woman, Ginger, whose coworker's husband works for the LIRR. He told his wife that he had spotted an injured Boston living in an abandoned trailer in the train yard in Jamaica, Queens. Ginger called us. The trailer was in an LIRR lot that is gated and locked. We called LIRR and couldn’t get through to a person. We called the FDNY firehouse that is adjacent to the lot and spoke to the Captain. He told us it is an LIRR lot only to be accessed by LIRR. We finally called MTA police 911 and reported the dog and they sent two officers to go find her.
MTA called us back and told us they had found her and gave us the direct number of the office in Jamaica that would have her. We were elated. When I called them they told me that she had escaped from them and was now loose in Queens.
We begged them to continue looking. How far could she get without someone seeing her? They eventually gave up and apologized. I sat at my desk at work welled up with sadness for this poor girl who was finally discovered and now is probably worse off on the streets of Queens. I had to set out to find her. I kept thinking, someone had to have seen her and she cant get far.
Once I got through the LGA Friday traffic, I went to the exact spot where the officers had found her. Not a nice place. An abandoned train yard in an industrial area of Queens. I drove slowly down each street with my windows down asking every single person if they had seen her. "What's her name?" they asked. I don’t know but I need to find her.I could smell the rain storm coming and it was starting to get darker. I combed every single street. I finally found one woman who barely spoke English who had seen her running about 2 hours ago. Luckily most people in this area hang out on their porches and make good witnesses. All I needed was a glimmer of hope. My husband called me and told me I was crazy and to come home. Rain is coming and its 7pm. I started thinking I’ve done everything I can, I need head home. As I drove down Jamaica Avenue to go home, I spotted her in my rearview mirror darting across the street very fast and obviously frightened.
I stopped my car, took off my work heels and with the help of a truckload of firemen and a neighborhood of people, we finally were able to corral her and get her into my car.She is in terrible shape. She has an injured eye and an inured leg and some of her pads are bleeding. She is very scared of people and does the army crawl. She spend most of her time in her crate. She hasn’t made a peep and is not interested in food at all yet.
The only thing she seems interested in is my dogs. They seem to soothe her. She recoils at the human touch and tenses up. She is almost feral but not aggressive at all. I am telling this story to not only welcome Clarissa into NEBTR but to remind myself that sometimes we have to go a step further to make something happen. There isn’t always someone else that is going to solve a problem. Sometimes, it's up to us and that is a wonderful thing. It is what makes us all human. We have the ability to change things and fix things. We all do.I have attached a picture of Clarisse. We will get her cleaned up and looked at by the vet today.
Please give her a warm welcome! Thanks to all of you for helping every single day. And a special thanks to Ginger for taking action yesterday. Clarisse would still be in the trailer if it weren’t for you. Ginger, I hope you join us - go to our webpage to join.
It takes a village.”
God bless you Jerrilyn! You are an amazing woman! Clarisse is beautiful and I know you will get her well!! She's so lucky to have you!! - Jennifer
WOW what a wonderful story to start the day off with! Jerrilyn you are gonna be nominated for sainthood!
I'm proud to be part of a group that has Jerrilyn as a member.
Now Clarisse can work on becoming a happy Boson instead of just surviving.
Thanks so much for going so far out of your way to help this dog. This LUCKY dog. :) – Chris
Jerrilyn, you are simply put, AMAZING!!!!
~Liz~
Jerrilyn,
What a incredible story. You always go above and beyond.
This IS a miracle and God was with you and helped you spot her.
Victoria
Jerrilyn,
The universe sent this dog to you for a reason. I knew you would find her and I knew
you would not give up until you did.
You are an inspiration to us all and the reason we all work for this cause. No animal should ever have to
live sick, abandoned and thrown out by society. The sadness shows on her face.
I also know that with your expertize, knowledge, dedication and of course some TLC, she will
transform into a happy pup. We all can learn a lesson from your heroic efforts and never give
up on these amazing dogs, a gift to us from the universe. They should all be cherished every day. What else in
our lives gives us love like this and asks for nothing in return??
Ellen Hansen
Wow Jerrilyn,
That is an amazing story of courage and dedication. You are an amazing person to go to this length to save this pup from such horrific circumstance. Thanks for all your dedication and hard work and everything you have done for all these sweet pups. This is truly why I love NEBTR you go above and beyond for these sweet pups
Thanks
Loretta Miner
You are an angel.
Deb
Jerrilyn, I'm speechless. You went so much farther to find this girl than even most rescue people would do. Your dedication to rescue is an inspiration. Thank you so much.
Ginny
We can always count on you to do whatever it takes to make the miracle happen. – Dawn

Doreen Keiser

First Grade Career Day
Mandy’s Progress
Mandy had a good day! Pic of her and her foster bros playing. She tries to play with my Golden a lot but not interested in my BT. They were playing and she joined in briefly for the first time. Also after over 2 months she came upstairs on her own!! I have carried her up there a few times and she has walked back down, but today she came up to me stopping half way not sure what to do and stumbling a little but she made it! These little things are huge for her she's gaining confidence!
Leslie Kaucic
Leslie,
This is such a heartwarming story about this wonderful little girl. Another huge step for her! What a great job your are doing with her.
Foster Gizmo
Hi everyone,
This is our new foster Gizmo. He will be 5 in July and is as cute as can be. He enjoys being around anyone and everyone, trying to get our dogs to play, getting as close to our dogs' faces as possible, baths, dancing, and just being alive. Seriously, this pup is always happy and reminds us of Dug from Up!
Here are some pictures. He is a total sweetheart and I think he will (unfortunately for us) be adopted very quickly.
