Hamilton the Party Animal
-- Chris Cassner
Happy New Year, Hamilton!!! Love your party hat. It looks like you made it to midnight...good for you!
Ellie Goes to the Rainbow Bridge
Our deepest sympathy to Laura Carey, who lost Ellie on December 31. Ellie was adopted in February of 2011. Jodi Groff was her loving foster mom.
Laura writes, "I know this isn't the happiest news for the new year, but I had to have Ellie put to sleep this am. Her kidneys were pretty much shot, and she was going downhill fast. I want to thank you for the 3 wonderful years I got to have with this special little girl. She brought me so much love and laughter in the short time I had her, and I wouldn't trade it for the world
Thank you again for rescuing her and bringing her into my life!
Laura"
Thank you, Laura, for giving her your love and making these last years of her life the happiest.
Boston New Year's Resolutions
Too many nights on the couch, too many dog biscuits and too little time running around the local dog park has made me a little, well, fluffier. I don't think the old "I'm-just-big-boned" excuse will work anymore. I resolve to bug my owner to take me out to the doggy park several times a week.
Resolution #2: I will beg less
I've got begging down to a fine art – he's putty in my paws – but it sure is demeaning. I promise to reserve the begging for worthwhile things, like going out to the park and T-bone steak.
Resolution #3: I will recognize the difference between furniture and fire hydrants.
I promise not to treat the furniture and walls the way I do fire hydrants. It drives my owners batty and has no lasting benefit for me (they clear away the scent almost as fast as I can "deposit" it.)
Resolution #4: I'll stay out of the cat's litter box.
I vow to resist the urge to snoop around the cat's private lavatory – even though it's a lot of fun and really makes her go nuts.
Resolution #5: I won't bite the vet anymore.
I'll remember that the vets and their staff are just trying to help in their own, inscrutable way, although they really know how to push my buttons with those needles!
Resolution #6: I won't steal food as much.
I won't go out of my way to steal food although all bets are off if they make it really easy for me.
Resolution #7: I'll introduce myself in more appropriate ways.
In other words, I'll focus above the waist when introducing myself to humans. Somehow, I get the feeling my normal greeting methods invade their private space.
Resolution #8: I'll do better "holding it" until morning.
When nature calls, I'll steel my resolve to wait for my normal morning walk, unless special considerations apply. I'll decide what those special considerations are.
Resolution #9: I'll bark at the mailman less.
Even though it works to put him in his place, I'll try not to exercise my authority over him and other delivery people, although my self-esteem does get a boost when they retreat.
Resolution #10: I'll tolerate those homemade bandannas more.
My owner has gone to a lot of trouble to make these things, so I'll just put up with the way they feel and the taunts of the other dogs.
Update on George
One year ago today my son and I drove an hour north of home to pick up our foster who we named George since he was located in vet up by Lake George, NY. Our approximately 12 year old guy came to us heart worm positive and in need of a neuter due to a "squishy" prostate. George was petrified of everything when we picked him up. He had definitely been abused and neglected before being dumped. Luckily the nice people at Schroon River Animal Hospital took him in and cared for him for weeks till NEBTR found out about George. He made it through heart worm treatment & the neuter and has come so far at home. George now likes to cuddle on the couch with our other three bostons and us. He runs towards visitors for attention instead of hiding in his crate. George doesn't do stairs so he barks and does a low growl "talk" at me when I run upstairs to do something. He is so funny! George has a very wiggly hind end and wags and wiggles whenever I talk to him. In spit of his age, George gallops around our fenced backyard like a thoroughbred horse and is always an eager, energetic walker. We feel blessed to have our sweet, loving boy and we think he is happy to be home.

George's Christmas tie- he's not in love with it.

George (front) cuddled up in bed with two of his dog siblings- we have three beds in this room but this is what they always prefer to do
He looks great, Cindy. A happy ending to a sad story. Thank you for making him a part of your family.
We remember the day you got him, Cindy. His life began anew with you.
He is all of "The American Gentleman" in his spiffy bow tie.
Many more years with him.
Tigger Thanks Santas and Looks Forward to 2014
Tigger was thrilled to receive Secret Santa packages with goodies, and thinks his foster sisters (Dolly pictured on couch) are beautiful. He is out around our house in our arms or on a leash-he is an exuberant, energetic, crazy happy mess! His manners are improving daily, and he is a true love bug! Tigger loves to dish out the kisses. He is looking forward to a Happy New Year in all ways, and maybe even a furever home! Wishing all of you wonderful folks & pups a Happy & Healthy New Year!!! Tigger, Denice & Family, Jackson, NJ
Brady and Rudy Thank Their Santas
Rudy loves his blanket from Joan Stark.
Just sad that these boys have not really had a lot of interest lately. Was hoping they would have found there forever home for Christmas! Hoping the new year brings them good news!!

I've lost my Couch to Boston's!
Chris Manzella shared this photo with us and I'm sure it looks familiar to many Boston owners! I bet they'd be happy to make room for you to snuggle in too!
Happy New Year
In side this virtual card reads:
Have a Happy and Healthy New Year to everyone at NEBTR. Let's save as many Boston's as we can this year and every year - it takes a village! Rescue, Adopt, Foster, Transport, Volunteer, everything helps.
