Bizzy and Her Forever Family

Bizzy left for her new home today. She went to live with Adam Lichtman and Tasha Gulywasz in Dover NJ. They were so happy to finally have her. She is going to be a VERY spoiled little girl. They plan on giving us tons of updates. Attached is a picture of them with Bizzy. I'm so happy for her and for them!!!

I am going to miss this little girl. She and i have been through a lot! I only cried once, and in the morning before the adoptive family came (pretty proud of myself for that lol) She is a lucky little lady!

Special Needs K9 Organization

Mike Pravetz has started "Special Needs k9", a nonprofit organization dedicating to helping special needs dogs with medical bills.

Mike writes, "My inspiration for starting "Special Needs K9, Inc." (Mr. Blue) went to an eye specialist and was our first case yesterday. The non-profit organization is fully operational (big thanx to Ellen and her daughter Alex!). The web-site is up and running at http://www.specialneedsk9.org, and I hope to be helpful to the special needs doggies in NEBTR as well as all other special needs breeds.

The news about Mr. Blue great....as much as his remaining eye is scratched and the some vessels are permanently damaged, he can see and the doctor said if the drops are administered (which they are) he is in no danger of losing his vision (That made my year). He's got a great home and gets to run about 2 miles several days a week (they're fitness people, living in a condo)."

Special Needs K9, Inc. is comprised of members, officers and volunteers. Specializing in rescue and aid to special needs dogs and other animals, our purpose and goal does not stop there. They are advocates against mistreatment of any animals, for their well-being and survival. Special Needs K9 finances medical procedures, treatments and purchases equipment that provides aid to disabled or otherwise affected animals. They find foster and forever homes for the ones that are difficult to adopt due to their disabilities. They also hire professionals to train dogs in animal shelters to help with certain behavioral issues that might have developed by being “locked up” in an undesirable environment for long periods of time. You can make a donation to help Mike and his animals by going to the website and clicking on the "Donate" button through paypal.

Mike believes, "These wonderful creatures were put on this earth to give us unconditional love and companionship. Unfortunately, some humans are not as giving as their pets. Some the pets are tortured or neglected, some get sick or injured, and in many cases they are “thrown” away into shelters, or even worse, they are euthanized. This is where we step in and make a difference. They give us so much, and we should at the very least give them a chance."

Patron of the Nebraska Boston Terrier Rescue

Jennifer of the Nebraska Boston Terrier Rescue posted this right before Christmas,

"Earlier this week I got a phone call from a gentleman in Branson, Missouri who told me that his 9 month old Boston Terrier puppy had broken his leg FIVE days prior and he could not afford to get the leg fixed. This poor puppy had been suffering for five days before he called me for help. I managed to arrange a transport up to Omaha the next day and the puppy got here. I took it to my vet who usually does my orthopedic surgeries and he took x-rays and told me that because of where the break was (up by the femoral head) and the extent of the damage it was beyond his expertise. He told me he could amputate the leg for $700. He called in an orthopedic specialist who could do the surgery and he told me that he could fix him, but the surgery would cost between $3000-3500. I struggled with this decision because of the cost, but in the end I couldn't let a young dog lose his leg just because of accounting so I authorized the surgery figuring I would figure out how to pay for it one way or another....because I believe in Christmas miracles."

"Patron had his surgery right before Christmas, and it was a success. He went home for the Holidays with one of the vets for aftercare. Right before surgery they found a lump on his jaw and did an additional xray to make sure we weren't dealing with cancer or anything like that. He had an old healing fracture there so this poor dog was probably abused. He is still the sweetest, most loving dog. Everyone who helped his transport to me fell in love with him."

Jennifer posted an update recently. She writes,

"First, I want to say thank you to everyone who came forward and sent a donation to Nebraska Boston Terrier Rescue. I know that it is tough with the economy and especially right before Christmas. BUT we raised enough money to cover the whole surgery and then a little bit...so no more donations are needed at this time.

I REALLY, REALLY want to thank the RESCUES and BT CLUBS that came forward to help one of their own. You all have dogs of your own to take care of and to come forward and donate money makes me very proud to be associated with you! Some of the organizations donated themselves and others sent it on to their volunteers who donated.
Thank you to:
Midwest Boston Terrier Rescue
Greater Houston Boston Terrier Club
Boston Terrier Club-Rescue of Southern Nevada
Boston Terrier Rescue of Eastern Tennessee
Southern Cross Boston Terrier Rescue
Boston Terrier Rescue Canada
Northeast Boston Terrier Rescue

Many of you asked if Patron was going back to his old owner and I thought it was a gimme that that would NEVER have happened, but I apparently did not make it clear. NBTR only takes in dogs that are surrendered to us and I would never raise money for a dog to go back to a possibly abusive owner.

Now....on to Patron...(many asked about his name...he was named after Patron Tequila)
He had his surgery last Tuesday and by Wednesday we knew it was a success! He was standing on it and waggling his little butt for everyone to pet him. He went home with one of the vets from the clinic for the Christmas holiday for her to "foster". Well, we all know how that turned out....she is keeping him! So...he has a new home and a new name...he will now go by the name of Charlie. The orthopedic surgeon gave him a go ahead to run and jump and be a puppy! And his vet owner said "he is running around and he doesn't act like he was ever 'broken'". "

Photos follow and you can see all the staples in his little leg. This was truly a heartwarming Christmas story with so many helping out this little guy!

Lucky

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.'

Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.

Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box..

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease....in fact; she was just sure it was fatal.

She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him! The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.

The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.

Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap.

Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.

When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life.
He had covered her with his love.

Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.

Remember....live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care for us.

Happy First Birthday Lucy!

Today is Lucy's first birthday! It's not the exact date, but its a rough estimate based off the date we picked her up in Hoboken. She was 12 weeks when we picked her up. She snoozed the whole car ride back to Allentown. She is now living in New York(not the city). Her family owns a camp and she gets to spend the whole summer there going on boat rides and having fun! She also has a sister named Roxy.  Lucy likes to bite at Roxy's ankles for attention (I think my little Penny taught her that lol). Lucy and Penny were best of buds when she was here. Penny is only 14-15 lbs so she is small and Lucy grew fast so they werent to far apart in size and would wrestle all the time!

Attached is some pictures of Miss Lucy while she was in our home as a foster! You can see her latest picture in the blog thing on our home page =)

Update on Chamberberg Mill Mama Addie

Hi Guys! I wanted to pass this along. December 28th I adopted out Mitzy, my current puppy mill foster. That same day was the first anniversary of the adoption of another puppy mill girl I fostered, Addie. Addie was one of the mill survivors that Tiff rescued from a mill in Chambersburg, PA in November, 2008. Three of her other mill mates were Bea with Lisa V., Quincy with Gilda and Amber with Emily T. She must have had a horrific existence in that mill because she was very emotionally damaged and even after having her for several months she was still extremely scared of humans. She has become the luckiest girl in the world because she was adopted by a very, very special family who continued to work with her and never gave up...even though it was a long and rocky road. In honor of her first anniversary they sent this video of her. My jaw dropped because I can hardly believe this is the same girl who physically shook when you came within 2 feet of her and fought for her life when you had to pick her up.

Her new family, Cathy and her daughter Alexis, have transformed this frightened mill girl into happy and healthy dog. I think what makes me love this video is you can hear how much Cathy and Alexis love this little girl!!! Just a little chicken soup for the rescuer's soul...

Here is her anniversary video.

-- Jodi Groff

And here is what her family says about her:

"Hi Jodi,

We can't believe it has been 1 year!!!! And we all are doing GREAT! As you can see Addie is just flourishing. We would never have imagined that she would be this good. She adores us and especially Petey...they are like brother and sister. To think last year when we brought her home....we had to keep her leash on and she wouldn't come near us...for months. I especially love when I come home and she hears the garage door, she is at the top of the stairs and when she sees my face she wiggles in excitement! She sleeps with me in my bed and snores like the dickens ( it lulls me to sleep!).

Thank you sooooo much for her!!!!! Jodi you did a great job! Share that video with Boston rescue if you want.

Please visit us on your next visit to Hoboken! Have a Wonderful New Year!

Love,

Cathy, Lex, Petey and PRINCESS ADDIE"

Update on Lucy

I received an update on Lucy. Lucy was adopted out last May and will be turning one in a week! She has gotten much bigger! Attached is a picture, Lucy is on the right. Her owner says that she is very big now, and still biting her sister Roxy's back legs for attention :) Here is a picture of them from last summer. Update on Bizzy Bee McGee

Bizzy is doing GREAT! She is recovering wonderfully. She has been testing out her new little knees constantly. You can really see how much improvement there is, she attempts to do many more things than she used to(and I end up chasing her around trying to keep her inactive, but she just wants to go go go go go go!!!!!) She is the happiest little lady, smiling all the time. She gets so excited when she sees you and does a complete body wiggle dance. She always has the biggest smile on her face. She is also a pro at "punching" my male pit and boston, but i feel she at least deserves this for all the boys that chased her tail at the mill lol!!!(and they toloerate it lol) Overall, she is just a pleasure to have around. She is a pro at cuddling and soft kisses, as well as a PRO at FETCH!!!!! she also likes to kick her toys under the couch and force us to get up and get them.

We are still looking for the perfect forever home for this little girl! Im going to miss her when she leaves!

New Foster Petey

Hi everyone,

It took us a while but here are some pictures of new foster Petey. His owners surrendered him last Thursday. He is absolutely gorgeous. Full of energy, he just wants to play play play! He acts more like a one year old than a five year old. He is very sweet and once he tires out he likes to snuggle on the couch or sleep in the bed with our 12-year-old.
