It is with a very heavy heart I write to tell you I had to let my Bingo go to the bridge last night. Some of you may remember Bingo from the blog post I made when he came back to live with me in 2008. http://bostonrescue.blogspot.com/search/label/Bingo . NEBTR did a Chip-in to help with his initial medical expenses which was such a great help to me at that point.
After Bingo's previous owner, his beloved Emma, had a stroke and he came to live out his life with me, we dealt with horrible dental issues, Mast Cell, Atypical Cushings, and a list of other health ailments. But Bing was always happy and easy going. He was a love who would wake me up in the middle of the night by just staring at me intently.... trying to tell me something. I would wake to his face about 6 inches from mine and his eyes focused on my face. He loved belly rubs and relaxing in the sun - belly up of course. He loved walks and car rides, and especially his stuffed bones . He was good with all the other critters, and especially loved my NEBtR foster, Benny when he was here. He was best buddies with my 16 year old ailing cat, Trinity. It was so cute to see them laying together - a chubby old BT man and a skinny old long haired calico cat.
Bing recently had some difficulty with a Hemangioma in his nose along with inflammation and infection. Nasal endoscopy and a good teeth cleaning with Dr Ron Hodges in Allentown diagnosed and allowed us to treat Bing and keep in comfortable for a while. Last weekend Bing seemed to fade.... he was not comfortable and was beginning to have difficulty passing air through his nostrils. He told me yesterday morning that he was ready go to be with Emma again.
I miss my little Chubber, but know I did the right thing for him.
Barb
NOTE: Bingo was an inspiration to many. One of our members wrote this about him:
"I am so sorry to hear about Bingo. But please know that it was his story that first inspired me to contribute to NEBTR and then join the group. We had his photo on our refrigerator for years. Please be comforted to know that he is now at peace."

Tucker Goes to His New Home
Tucker who was fostered by Traci Grant went to his new home. He was adopted by the Archers from Philadelphia. Tucker is a 2 year old who loves people, and who followed his foster mom everywhere. He has plenty of energy to go around, and loves lots of walks and exercise.
Congratulations Traci and thanks for taking such great care of Tucker. It was hard for her and her family to say goodbye but I know every foster home will agree that it is never easy and each one takes a piece of your heart. Just as important, anyone who has a adopted is forever grateful that those foster homes gave you the opportunity to bring those pups into your lives.

New Foster Bailey
I just picked up my first foster this evening, Miss. Bailey here in Altoona, PA. She is a 7 year old female with a blue eye. I will obviously give more details as I find them out. Will keep everybody posted!
She had a choker collar on when she was surrendered, but the first thing we did was to get her a turquoise buckle collar to match her pretty blue eye!

Zippy is Adopted
Congratulations to Zippy, who was just adopted by the Grohski/Ryan family fro Wilmington, DE. Congratulations to his wonderful foster mom Sandy Allen for a job well done!
Zippy certainly lives up to his name and will zip around your entire yard. He has way more pick up and go than any 8 year old we have ever seen, especially if you have a ball. He will play for hours! He can look forward to many happy games of fetch!

Baby Steals Hearts
Here is an FB post from Brit who owns Fetch Doggy Botique. Meredith, her foster mom and Baby visited the other day:
"I met a dog today... Not unusual becuase I own a dog boutique:) but today I met a VERY special dog... one that broke my heart... one that stole my heart... and everyone else's that walked in the store for the hour she was there.. Today ...I met Baby... I watched her say hello to a boxer 4x her size... kiss and protect a 16 month old child.. get bitten in the bum (playingly) by a 14 week old cane corso without even a yelp.. and fall asleep in my lap 30 minutes after meeting me.. Why is this so amazing? Because Baby is a shelter dog.. and is now in foster care for only 7 days when I met her. Baby was neglected and becuase of this nearly blind.. but she is one of the most amazing pups I have ever met and just needs someone to love her as much as she loves everyone else..."
She is breaking hearts and taking names :)

New Foster Quinn
Hi All,
I wanted to share the good news. I took Quinn to my vet today. Dr. Madden was absolutely blown away at how beat up he is but yet the sweetest, kindest dog ever. Dr. Madden thinks he hasn't been well cared for for quite awhile. Fortunately, outside of the exterior issues, he only has a nasty case of bad teeth/gingivitis and an URI. We have him on clavamox for the next 2 weeks.
Like me, Dr. Madden kept going on about what a nice dog he is. Once we can get on top of the physical stuff with him, he will make somebody a perfect companion. I have yet to hear him snarl, growl or bark. He's so mellow and easy going. Beadoe actually allows him to sleep on him!! This is DEFINITELY a first!!!

Biscuit Goes to His Forever Home
Biscuit, now Oliver, the deaf guy from the Philly shelter went to his new home tonight. Thanks to Laurie W. for doing the home check and to Janice B. for pitching in with the fostering. His new moms Kate and Erin were super nice and he's going to have 2 new brothers- Hadley and Winston.
You don't even realize he's deaf with the other dogs because they are his ears. It was a great experience fostering him.

New Foster Hayley
Hi Everyone!
Just letting you know I got a new foster on Saturday, almost 2 yr old Hayley. I attached a pic. She is very sweet, but nervous. Her ears are in bad shape, one worse than the other, apparently she has ongoing ear infections. She is thin and has dry skin. She had pups in April and is still not spayed. I already gave her a bath, hope to get her to the vet soon.

Vote for Eddie
Hello Northeast Boston Terrier Group - Eddie is doing great. We adopted him at age 9, and he became a therapy dog. Now he is nominated by the American Humane Association to be a hero dog. Please everyone in your group vote for him.
Just Click here and vote - the American Human Association may require you set up a password before voting.
http://www.herodogawards.org/view-entries.html#search/eddie
Here's his story:
Eddie, so we understand, began his life in a pet store in Long Island, New York. Someone thought he was cute and took him home.
Nine years later, Eddie found himself in foster care, obese and suffering from severe allergies. Many of his teeth were so decayed that they had to be removed. He also had scars on parts of his body from previous dog bites.
We went to the foster home where Eddie was staying, planning to adopt a certain, younger dog. Our plans derailed when Eddie pranced right up to us with his "I love you" eyes. He opened our hearts to his gentle and pure spirit.
We put that gentle and pure spirit to work. Eddie lost weight, got his allergies under control, and kept up with his pearly white teeth (the few that remained). In addition, he decided to advance his education by attending classes at The Good Dog Foundation. He graduated as a therapy dog at age 10.
With his new physique and dog therapy diploma in hand, he presented at the Village Nursing Home in NYC, among other venues, where he warmed many hearts. He made one man with Alzheimer's disease smile for the first time in years. He also visits the students at New York University to help them through the intense stress of college life. Eddie is also wonderful with children and is preparing to visit young kids hospitalized for cancer treatment.
Eddie is a hero. He is an inspiring little man who has overcome adversity and helps others feel safe and happy. What better gift is there than that?

New Foster Baby
Baby, who is 7 years old, was put in an animal shelter by her former owners. They said they had no tome for her. Her eyes were swollen shut and infected when she got there, and the director wisked her away to the vet (out of her pocket) and got her treatment.
Here's what her foster mom Meredith says about her:
"Well I don't know if you guys saw Dirty Dancing but... "Nobody puts Baby in a corner." She really is wonderful. She needs a family... With cats, dogs, and kids. Originally I felt children over 10 because of her eyes... But the way she was with all the kids yesterday she'd been 100% fine with any age kids, as long as the parents had experience with dogs to teach their kids responsibility. I just came in from outside where she was playing with the neighbors 2 yr old and rottie mix. They love her, but can't afford her meds.
She is the perfect dog everyone wants. She really has no behavior issues. So happy and loving. I really think she needs a house with kids or other pets. She loves them all so much.
She can see, and my vet thinks her eyes are savable. She is getting Alcon drops and we are also using gel tears. He said after a few weeks, she will just need some daily gel drops and she should be fine.
Baby has some trouble producing tears.... that's all. How could you have "no time" to put drops in your dogs eyes?"

I am an Animal Rescuer
I AM AN ANIMAL RESCUER
by Casey Carter Tyree
I will never bring about world peace. I will not save the rain forest.
I'm not a brain surgeon and I'll never transplant an organ to save a life.
I don't have the ear of a powerful politician or world power.
I can't end world hunger.
I'm not a celebrity, and God knows I'm not glamorous!
I'm not looked up to by millions around the world. Very few people
even recognize my name.
I'll never win the Nobel prize.
I'll never save the rain forest or end global warming.
There are a lot of things that I'll never do or become.
But today I placed a dog!
It was a small, scared, bundle of flesh and bones that was dropped off in a shelter by unfeeling people that didn't care what happened to it, but yet who were responsible for it even having existence in the first place.
I found it a home.
It now has contentment and an abundance of love. A warm place to sleep and plenty to eat. A child has a warm fuzzy new friend who will give them unquestioning devotion and teach them about responsibility and love.
A wife and mother has a new spirit to nurture and care for. A husband and a father has a companion to sit at his feet at the end of a hard day of work and help him relax and enjoy life. And a sense of security, that when he is gone all day at work, that there is a protector and a guardian in his home to keep watch over his family.
No, I'm not a rocket scientist but today I saved one of God's precious creatures. Today, I made a difference!
I Am An Animal Rescuer
My job is to assist God's creatures
I was born with the need to fulfill their needs
I take in new family members without plan, thought or selection
I have bought dog food with my last dime
I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid
I have fallen in love a thousand times and I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body
I have Animal Friends and friends who have Animal Friends
I don't often use the word "pet"
I notice those lost at the road side
And my heart aches
I will hand raise a field mouse
And make friends with a vulture
I know of no creature unworthy of my time
I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven
But I believe there are!
Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind?
We may be master of the animals,
But the animals have mastered themselves
Something people still haven't learned
War and abuse make me hurt for the world
But a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for humankind
We are a quiet but determined army
And making a difference every day
There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan
Nothing more rewarding than saving a life
No higher recognition than watching them thrive
There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play
who only days ago, was too weak to eat
I am an Animal Rescuer
My work is never done
My home is never quiet
My wallet is always empty
But my heart is always full
In the game of life, I have already won!

Needful Things to Remember
THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THIS FOSTER DOG INTO MY LIFE
Had I not made the decision to participate in rescue, I would never have had the chance to meet him. If I had sat here comfortably in my home and said "I already have four dogs and I know that I couldn't take in another - even on a temporary basis," I would never have met this dog. Yes, it takes time to rescue and foster... but who gave me time in the first place? And why or what was the reason I was given Time? To fill my own needs? Or was there another reason ever so small and seemingly insignificant, like rescuing this one dog that could make a difference in another's life? Perhaps to add joy, hope, help and companionship to another who is in need?
With great sadness, I sat down on a footstool in my kitchen this morning and watched as this foster dog bounced back into the house and skidded across the floor to sit ever so perfectly in front of me.
He was the picture of health, finally. He was all smiles for me...and I smiled back at his happy face. Deep in his eyes, the storm clouds of illness and generalized poor health had blown away, and the clear light of his perfection radiated out from his beautiful soul. He holds no ill will toward man. He forgives us all.
I thought to myself as I impressed this one last long look of him into my heart, what a very fine creature you have created. Tears slowly pooled and spilled over my cheekbones as the deeper
realization of how wonderful this dog is sank into my internal file cabinet of Needful Things to Remember. Lord, he's a dog - but he's a better human being than I am. He forgives quickly. Would I do the same? He passionately enjoys the simple things in life, and I have often overlooked them.
He accepts change and gets on with his life! I fuss and worry about change. He lives today and loves today. And I often dwell in the past or worry about the future. He loves no matter what. I am not that free.
This very lovely dog has gone to his new home today and already I miss him. Thank you for bringing this dog into my life. And thank you for the beautiful and tender lesson on how to be a better human.

After the Tornado
Some good comes from a disaster.
The story begins with the rescuers finding this poor little guy they named Ralphie. Someone had already taken him under their wing but they weren't equipped to adopt.
Ralphie, scared and starved, joined his rescuers.
I wouldn't think anything could live through this.... but we were wrong.
This little lady also survived that wreckage.
Here she is just placed in the car - scared, but safe.
Instant friends, they comforted each other while in the car.
.
It's going to work just fine, thank you very much!

and then..they are no longer alone!

.
Add two more beagles found after that... the more, the merrier!
Oh boy, a new traveler to add to the mix...(Note: the cat coming over the seat needing shelter...)
Now just how is this going to work? (and remember they are all strange to one another)

Wow! The things we learn from our animal friends...
If only all of mankind could learn such valuable lessons as this.
Lessons of instant friendship;of peace and harmony by way of respect
for one another -- no matter one's color or creed.
These animals tell you... "It's just good to be alive and with others."
Yes, it surely is.
So... Live, love, laugh.

Update on Foster Goober
Goober is doing very well.
He is happy as can be and quite the demanding little man. He loves to go for his short walks and will push to the front of the door to be able to go. He spends most of his evenings curled up on my lap, he usually stands at the bottom of the sofa and stares at me until I pick him up. He does not like when the other puppies on the sofa stretch and bump him and he will give them a little snap or growl to tell them so. He usually curls up inside my legs to avoid any other puppies touching him.
He is a gentle kisser and quite the nuzzler. At the end of every day, I look forward to my Goobie dance when I come home, he sounds like hes tap dancing. He dances until I pick him up, then he gives me my kisses. He has been eating great and loves his chewies.
At his last vet visit, he had gained a pound and was given an A+. His hair is 90% grown back, I'm not sure that the last 10% will ever grow back. His flare ups are almost non existent. His energy level has also shot up since he is feeling better. He is like a whole new Goobie.
We love our Oobie Goobie Gooberson!
