Hi,
Attached is a photo of Miles (white & black) and his brother Timmy (brindle)

Myrtle Goes to the Vet

So I have had Myrtle in my care since May and her itchy skin and hair loss has not improved much in the past few months-her other ailments (anemia, elevated WBC count, hematoma on her ear) have all improved though.

We went to see a specialist today for her skin and he thinks that because she has had this going on for so long (2 plus years according to her paperwork) it is just a very stubborn infection and the treatments we were doing for her were just scratching the surface.  He prescribed Apoquel (which from what I understand is fairly hard to get due to a shortage, so I feel fortunate), and hopefully we should see results within a few days.

Time is a bit of the essence as she needs a life saving heart surgery too, but the cardiologist won't perform surgery until she is better as he thinks it could compromise her health.  This poor little girl is only 5, but seems like she has been through hell, so keeping fingers crossed that this Apoquel works!!!

Happy Gotcha Day Brain

Happy First Gotcha Anniversary AND a very Happy 10th Birthday to my former foster, Brain (fka Porter).

He is living an amazing life with his Dad, Joseph, who says:  "It's been a spectacular year. I feel like Brain and I know each other for much longer.  He truly is the best, and we were a great match!"

Lucky boys!!!

I Loved You Best

I came across this poem by Jim Willis and was touched to share it. I’m sure many have read it before, but it made me remember all my furry friends that I have loved over my lifetime.

I Loved You Best
by Jim Willis

So this is where we part, My Friend,
and you'll run on, around the bend,
gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you'll surely find.

I will go on, I'll find the strength,
life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
share one last look, before I grieve.

There are others, that much is true,
but they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
will remember well all you've taught.

Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
the fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
take with you this...I loved you best.

Adopt Glory

Glory Hallelujah! Hi, I'm a true gentleman, quiet, well mannered, and like being with people and other dogs, enjoying gentle wrestling, playing with toys, going for short walks, and riding in the car. A svelte 17+ lbs, I'm in perfect health, with one small defect: I was born with a bad eye so it had to be removed when I was just a baby, but I'm used to that so I don't let it interfere with enjoying life! Besides, I can wear an eye patch and a pirate hat for Halloween or any party you have, I already have part of the costume, and I'm always winking at you for a bit of fun. I'm not a chewer so no need to worry about your shoes, furniture, or human toys, I'm content with my rope toy or bone.

I like having my human or another dog nearby, but I'm not a pest, that is, I'm not demanding or aggressive for attention, just happy that you are my friend. I'm peaceful, not a mean bone in my body, and laid back. I don't even need to sleep in your bed or under the blankets. Just want to know that I am loved and comfortable in my surroundings, preferably a forever home. Just seven years young, my good health assures you'll have me as your buddy for a long time.

My former owner became really ill so I and my two canine brothers, standard poodles, were surrendered to rescue when mom found out she wasn't going to get better. I was shy at first, missing my brothers and mom, adjusting to a pesky new foster sister, a new home, and a new mom, especially after spending some time in a kennel while mom was in the hospital. My foster mom is working to correct the bad habit I got into while in the kennel, namely, not minding my housebreaking manners, but I'm trying hard to be a good dog so I can be a perfect companion for you.

Wouldn't you like to have a loving dog like me? I am being fostered in Albany, New York, but looking to relocate to a new forever home.

Where's Neiko?

I couldn't find Neiko anywhere inside the house...then I spotted him! He is too cute....

New Foster Rocco

Rocco did well in the car ride home. I used my seatbelt harness for him so he had no choice LOL but he sat up for awhile while I petted his head then lay down and went to sleep. He did his duties as soon as we got in the yard so that's great. I haven't had a 1 yr old Boston in years so will be interesting to say the least!!!!

He absolutely has no manners on the leash AT ALL so I will have to start from page one with him. He will need an easywalk harness for sure The one for Scooby is too big on him right now. I am too tired right now but will try to get a few pics of him tomorrow after he settles in a bit.

Rico is Safe

The emaciated stray boy was pulled from the Brooklyn ACC today and is now being nursed back to health by Carolyn.
Look at how much better he looks already!

Jerrilyn Walter

Oh thank you Carolyn for giving him the comfort and peace and care he deserves!!!  What a great group we have changing the lives of these sweet Bostons.  Heal up little Rico.

Update on Sophia

Sophia is a great little dog & we love her very much – she bosses around poor Ringo (but they get along pretty well together).  She’s had some health issues – our vet recommended that the mammary tumor she had when we adopted her come out, so we had that done.  Then she developed another nodule in another nipple & that was removed, as well.  One of the claws on her right front paw turned black & was bleeding – we thought she had injured it & the vet recommended soaking, etc. but it didn’t get better.  Finally we took her to the vet, who removed part of the digit (I think the photo of her with the bootie on was after she had the paw surgery) & it turned out to be squamous cell carcinoma.  Luckily it seemed to be confined to the end of her toe & hasn’t spread & since then she’s been pretty healthy (apart from occasional diarrhea that we can control pretty well with medication).  Her favorite spot to sit is on the living room sofa, so we call her “Sofa-phia.”  Lately she has taken to licking my arm for 5 – 10 minutes after we go to bed!  We’d love to get another Boston at some point but are pretty full up now with Sophia, Ringo the Border Terrier & Lewis the cat.

Here are some photos of Sophia –

She’s a great little dog.

Good Morning From Spot

Our fellow is doing well.  He's been quite playful with toys lately, and enjoys games of fetch or keep-away.

More on Beau

Bo is in great spirits today like he was last night. He happily ate breakfast (Halo brand Spot's Stew in lamb recipe - dry kibble version - with a little wild Salmon oil mixed in) and has been drinking a good amount of water. He ate his medication fine (that I hid in a little bit of melted cheese).  He loves to play and seems to really enjoy chewing toys (he has already tore open a somewhat heavy duty toy I got him).

He is high energy and hasn't wanted to curl up and take a nap all morning. He just now sat down for the first time and looks like he will take a nap (spoke too soon - he keeps getting up to explore and then laying back down). He is very affectionate and likes to lick me, but it turns into humping often - he is very humpy!  I assume that will calm down in a few weeks since he was just neutered. He easily allows you to pick him up, but sometimes when I have gone to do so he winces or tenses up before I touch him. He is definitely startles easily. Of course he may be nervous given all that he has been through (and his unknown prior living situation), but I get the feeling that some of his nerves at least may stem from not seeing things that well. He is not bumping into walls or anything, but it seems like sometimes he cannot see some things that are close in front of him.

He does not seem to be bothered by his neutering at all, but I am restricting his activity just in case (I've taken him for several very short relief walks outside but haven't let him walk very far out of concern for his stitches plus he would run miles if I let him - I carried him down the street and back to the park so he could potty on grass).

He seems less anxious this afternoon (he has been happy and affectionate since I got him, but anxious nonetheless) .  A nice long walk and time sitting in the sun in the park this morning seemed to do wonders for Bo in terms of getting out some of his energy and calming him down.  Happily I have discovered that Bo is much better on a leash than I initially thought.  Today about halfway through a long walk he slowed down his frantic pace (somewhat), pulled less on the leash, and had less anxiety.  He is such a special little Boston, I adore him!

Rita Weeks

Thank you again Rita for all that you are doing for this beautiful boy!

Thanks to Amanda McLean

Hi everyone;
Just wanted to publicly thank Amanda McLean for seizing an opportunity which resulted in a huge box of toys!

She was in Petco and saw toys for a dollar and bought them all for our new foster packages.
That was very generous, Amanda and Thank You again.

Louis Says Thanks for the Bed

Louie received his new "chew resistant" bed today! Louie has a tendency to chew his bed whem im not looking. (And everyone else's) He really enjoys the bumpy fabric that usually covers the bottom! Maybe this bed will outlast the rest! He also received his cosequin! Hopefully that will help his back leg feel better. He is on an anti inflammatory and a pain killer this week to see if that will help.
Thank you to the kind supporter that sent his gifts!

Amos Helps Make Dog Toys

Well sort of helping darn bird keeps stealing my strips of T-shirts. I guess it's ok if that's all it takes to entertain my bird.

My first Vet Tech job was with an Avian vet.A lady brought 2-- 3 day old babies in the mom and dad had killed one. They had no idea how to hand feed so we took them in I hand fed the pair. She never came back for them so the vet kept one and I kept one. Amos is actually a girl but didn't know it way back then we just nick named them Amos and Andy. Amos will turn 29 yrs old this Sept I have had her all these yrs. My dogs have GREAT respect for her she is meaner than all get out to anyone but me, I can do anything with her.
