Where's Neiko?

I couldn't find Neiko anywhere inside the house...then I spotted him! He is too cute....

New Foster Rocco

Rocco did well in the car ride home. I used my seatbelt harness for him so he had no choice LOL but he sat up for awhile while I petted his head then lay down and went to sleep. He did his duties as soon as we got in the yard so that's great. I haven't had a 1 yr old Boston in years so will be interesting to say the least!!!!

He absolutely has no manners on the leash AT ALL so I will have to start from page one with him. He will need an easywalk harness for sure The one for Scooby is too big on him right now. I am too tired right now but will try to get a few pics of him tomorrow after he settles in a bit.

Rico is Safe

The emaciated stray boy was pulled from the Brooklyn ACC today and is now being nursed back to health by Carolyn.
Look at how much better he looks already!

Jerrilyn Walter

Oh thank you Carolyn for giving him the comfort and peace and care he deserves!!!  What a great group we have changing the lives of these sweet Bostons.  Heal up little Rico.

Update on Sophia

Sophia is a great little dog & we love her very much – she bosses around poor Ringo (but they get along pretty well together).  She’s had some health issues – our vet recommended that the mammary tumor she had when we adopted her come out, so we had that done.  Then she developed another nodule in another nipple & that was removed, as well.  One of the claws on her right front paw turned black & was bleeding – we thought she had injured it & the vet recommended soaking, etc. but it didn’t get better.  Finally we took her to the vet, who removed part of the digit (I think the photo of her with the bootie on was after she had the paw surgery) & it turned out to be squamous cell carcinoma.  Luckily it seemed to be confined to the end of her toe & hasn’t spread & since then she’s been pretty healthy (apart from occasional diarrhea that we can control pretty well with medication).  Her favorite spot to sit is on the living room sofa, so we call her “Sofa-phia.”  Lately she has taken to licking my arm for 5 – 10 minutes after we go to bed!  We’d love to get another Boston at some point but are pretty full up now with Sophia, Ringo the Border Terrier & Lewis the cat.

Here are some photos of Sophia –

She’s a great little dog.

Good Morning From Spot

Our fellow is doing well.  He's been quite playful with toys lately, and enjoys games of fetch or keep-away.

More on Beau

Bo is in great spirits today like he was last night. He happily ate breakfast (Halo brand Spot's Stew in lamb recipe - dry kibble version - with a little wild Salmon oil mixed in) and has been drinking a good amount of water. He ate his medication fine (that I hid in a little bit of melted cheese).  He loves to play and seems to really enjoy chewing toys (he has already tore open a somewhat heavy duty toy I got him).

He is high energy and hasn't wanted to curl up and take a nap all morning. He just now sat down for the first time and looks like he will take a nap (spoke too soon - he keeps getting up to explore and then laying back down). He is very affectionate and likes to lick me, but it turns into humping often - he is very humpy!  I assume that will calm down in a few weeks since he was just neutered. He easily allows you to pick him up, but sometimes when I have gone to do so he winces or tenses up before I touch him. He is definitely startles easily. Of course he may be nervous given all that he has been through (and his unknown prior living situation), but I get the feeling that some of his nerves at least may stem from not seeing things that well. He is not bumping into walls or anything, but it seems like sometimes he cannot see some things that are close in front of him.

He does not seem to be bothered by his neutering at all, but I am restricting his activity just in case (I've taken him for several very short relief walks outside but haven't let him walk very far out of concern for his stitches plus he would run miles if I let him - I carried him down the street and back to the park so he could potty on grass).

He seems less anxious this afternoon (he has been happy and affectionate since I got him, but anxious nonetheless) .  A nice long walk and time sitting in the sun in the park this morning seemed to do wonders for Bo in terms of getting out some of his energy and calming him down.  Happily I have discovered that Bo is much better on a leash than I initially thought.  Today about halfway through a long walk he slowed down his frantic pace (somewhat), pulled less on the leash, and had less anxiety.  He is such a special little Boston, I adore him!

Rita Weeks

Thank you again Rita for all that you are doing for this beautiful boy!

Thanks to Amanda McLean

Hi everyone;
Just wanted to publicly thank Amanda McLean for seizing an opportunity which resulted in a huge box of toys!

She was in Petco and saw toys for a dollar and bought them all for our new foster packages.
That was very generous, Amanda and Thank You again.

Louis Says Thanks for the Bed

Louie received his new "chew resistant" bed today! Louie has a tendency to chew his bed whem im not looking. (And everyone else's) He really enjoys the bumpy fabric that usually covers the bottom! Maybe this bed will outlast the rest! He also received his cosequin! Hopefully that will help his back leg feel better. He is on an anti inflammatory and a pain killer this week to see if that will help.
Thank you to the kind supporter that sent his gifts!

Amos Helps Make Dog Toys

Well sort of helping darn bird keeps stealing my strips of T-shirts. I guess it's ok if that's all it takes to entertain my bird.

My first Vet Tech job was with an Avian vet.A lady brought 2-- 3 day old babies in the mom and dad had killed one. They had no idea how to hand feed so we took them in I hand fed the pair. She never came back for them so the vet kept one and I kept one. Amos is actually a girl but didn't know it way back then we just nick named them Amos and Andy. Amos will turn 29 yrs old this Sept I have had her all these yrs. My dogs have GREAT respect for her she is meaner than all get out to anyone but me, I can do anything with her.

Update on Oscar

In June we had him 4 years. He is the sweetest, smartest, most affectionate and definitely FUNNIEST dog we've known. He used to pop right up on the table when we got him. He is agile like a cat! He knows he is not supposed to do that, but occasionally he loses his mind and does it again. We had 50 people here for my 50th birthday last year. For the end of the evening, desserts were on the table and he was nearby whimpering occasionally all night. When Karl and I walked our last guests to the door at 3 AM, we heard a crashing sound. We came upstairs to find him standing on the table eating cake! He's so darn cute you can't stay mad at him!

At night he makes his rounds. He always starts out in a little nest he makes in our 13 year old's room. Sometime during the night, he comes into our bedroom and either goes in his bed, or when it is colder he gets in between the 2 of us.He ia quite a sweet little snuggler. He knows the sound of our cars and it is so heartwarming to find him in the window waiting when w pull in the driveway. We still crate him if no one is home and he destroys all dog beds/mats.Momma keeps buying him new ones! He destroys dog toys in under 5 minutes. Luckily, he only destroys his own stuff and not ours.

Oscar has food allergies and we keep him on special food. He LOVES fruits and begins so I always share with him since I can't give him chicken or meat. He can smell a banana from the other end of the house! He gets a KOng when he is crated with frozen sweet potato and loves it. He can hear a bag of potato chips being rustled from anywhere in the house. His special time with Daddy is sharing chips in front of the TV together. We are head over heels in love with this dog.

Sadly, Oscar's sheltie brother Bluey has cancer. we have known since February. He has good days and bad. Right now, he has had a few bad days in a row and we are sad at the thought of saying good-bye. We hope to add another BT in the future.

Thank you for saving him! We can't imagine anyone giving him up. He is so special. We are grateful to NEBTR and also Beth and Jim McFadden for fostering him.

I will attach some pics.<3 data-blogger-escaped-br="">

Update on Popeye

Popeye's gotcha day will be in October.  I feel blessed to have him as part of my life.  I fell in love with Popeye when I saw him on NEBTR's website, but was worried about his special health needs (he had meningitis as a puppy and has neurological damage).  I am so glad I took a chance and opened my home and heart to this special little dog and have been stunned by his growth.  His wonderful foster mom's noted that he seemed to be getting stronger while they were caring for him, and he has continued to get stronger.  Popeye can now go on hour long walks in Valley Forge where he likes to hunt down frogs, sprints around the yard like a little maniac with his doggy sister Sophie, eats solid foods with no issues (and does a hilarious hopping dance while waiting for his meal), and is learning basic commands.  Popeye is a happy little guy who is my cuddle bug and brings a smile to my face every day.  Popeye's resiliency reminds me to never give up and make the most of each day.  Both my life, and Sophie's life, is happier and more full now that he is a part of it.  Thank you NEBTR for rescuing Popeye and bringing him into my life!
